Doomscrolling sometimes leads to great discoveries I guess. Hum showed up on my feed one day with a snippet of them performing their song Stars on some TV show. I thought that the performance was great, so I ultimately seeked out this album and decided I wanted to listen to it sometime down the line. Well, I'm writing this review now, and after multiple listens I can confidently say that this was well worth my time.

You know what? I haven’t enjoyed a Muse song like this since The 2nd Law. The mix between synth pop and heavy metal is really well done, and for the first time in a long while isn’t overtly corny. I still have my doubts about their next album, but Unravelling is a killer first single, and gives me some hope about Muse’s future.
When this first came out, I'm gonna be honest, I couldn't finish it. Indie rock just wasn't my thing a couple years ago, and I very much prefer faster, more punchy genres of rock like Pop Punk and Hardcore. Coming back to This Is Why after being somewhat disappointed with Brand New Eyes and their Self-Titled though, I gotta say, I've come fully around to this. Honestly though, I do think that the album is kinda overrated and bloated. Outside of Fast In My Car the first few songs are really ... read more
Man, why does Jonny Craig have to sound like an angel? He's such a shitty person, but despite being incoherent for half of the album he still manages to be my favorite vocalist from Dance Gavin Dance. Combine him with the return of a noticeably improving Jon Mess, and the R&B infused Swancore, and DBM2 ends up probably being my second favorite DGD record. It's a fun, interesting, and satisfying experience, although it fumbles and loses a lot of steam after Blue Dream.
