Thank you, @ConcreteCastles, for sharing your album with me :)
Yet another beautiful ambient and colorful album from Opals. While it's pretty similar to the previous album, Shimmering, it's also quite different from it. Shimmering, to me, sounded a lot more smoother. There was rarely a moment where the production became distorted or rough. On Diffractions, it's the opposite. The production is a lot more "dirty" and rough, which is a critique, as it actually is a benefit for the album and gives us someone a little different. And even with the distortion and electronics, the album still has that psychedelic and ambient sound to it. It's still as beautiful Shimmering, maybe even more so. While both tracks are absolutely great, my favorite has to be Diffractions I. In 19 minutes, this track takes you on a dream like journey, and the changes it goes through as it progresses to the end keep me completely engaged. I also like how it doesn't end immediately. Instead, it takes its time bringing us back down, which I find way more satisfying. Overall, Diffractions is beautiful ambient and lush that is able to differentiate itself from Shimmering, while also keeping the elements I really enjoyed. Again, thank you, ConcreteCastles, for sharing your album. Also, great work on the visuals. They're stunning.
