This record has a super palpable frenetic energy to it that is of itself quite enjoyable. Unfortunately the writing here is pretty weak and downright childish at several points, plus this record doesn’t really change sonically at all through its runtime, making it a bit of a slog by the end to get through. There are definite moments of greatness here though like the excellent opener
Not one of their best tracks by any means, but a fun, energetic, catchy track. I’m just glad to have these guys back and I’m v excited for the upcoming project
Far and away the best way to listen to Elvis’ music. Even though he REALLY (imo) was not an album artists apart from a couple standouts, this still stands as a legendary set of tracks without question
The live-feel of this LP brings such a powerful energy to Elvis’ obviously already powerful voice. There are a few prettt boring duds but the highs here are incredibly potent, including imo his best ever track Suspicious Minds
Such simple, good, swingin vibes. This album is obviously very much of its time but basically all of these tracks are just so instantly enjoyable that it’s easy to look past it. The definition of a cotton candy record but a damn fine one at that
The growling voice this fellow can make is so damn interesting to listen to. For a compilation of 20s recordings the clarity is honestly phenomenal- you can hear really clearly pretty much everything Willie says. One of the blues greats without question
This compilation proves that Robert Johnson really was the goat of old blues music. Such a fascinating compilation and a deeply important one concerning the history of both blues and rock music, he should be considered a legend
Just some really fun and chill Latin Pop. I do think the back half of this thing is substantially weaker than the first, but regardless a really fun listen
On paper I think this could’ve been a super interesting and enjoyable collab, and while there are moments here that are super fun and engaging the whole of this felt really disjointed and messy to me. Not terrible or even bad just a lot weaker than it could’ve been imo
I don't normally rate greatest hits compilations but I feel like this compilation in particular deserved it. This thing is just start to back utterly packed with some of the best music of the 20th century, period. If someone is just getting into Sinatra's music, this is undoubtedly the place to start
One of the best albums to ever encapsulate a specific mood ever made. The emotional potency on basically all of these tracks is genuinely impactful and at times crushing to listen to- some of Frankie's best vocals and most varied production make this an absolute treat for the ears. For this to have been made almost 70 years ago is genuinely astonishing. Easily my favorite Frankie album
Half of this record is a continued collaboration between Frankie and Jobim, while the second half is a purely Frankie endeavor. While this record may not be the most cohesive as a result of the two distinct halves, there are legitimately incredible songs here: Drinking Water and One Note Samba are two of the best Sinatra + Jobim tracks without question. Some of the solo Frankie songs in the second half are also among his very best work, like I Will Drink The Wine and Sunrise In The Morning. An ... read more
Sinatra and Jobim make for a match made in heaven on this record. Frankie's angelic voice backed by the Bossa nova instrumentation makes for such a lovely listening experience, especially on megahits like The Girl From Ipanema and Change Partners. One of his vibiest records for sure
I think he has several other albums that are better overall packages than this one for certain, but the highs here are genuinely of incredible note. Debatably Frankie's best ever opener is on this thing, not to mention some of his most eclectic and intriguing production of his entire career. Very easy to miss but worth a listen 100%
Idk I guess this is perceived as a pretty forgettable release of his but I think the tracks here have some of his strongest melodies and most intricate production, barring weird tracks like Pass Me By
A surprisingly really great late-career Frankie album. This thing is unquestionably too long, and I do understand why it being nearly 2 hours makes this a tough listen. That being said, I honestly think he nails the past/present/future aesthetic he was going for here. You can hear gradually as each track goes along how the sound reflects where Sinatra was at that point in both his career and life, which is really cool to hear. Not to mention some of his all time best tracks are on here like It ... read more
Hearing a younger Frankie is really interesting. Obviously the recording quality isn't the best, and this is the only album of his where he sounds non-confident in his vocal ability, but still an incredibly intriguing piece of music history
