i found this on bandcamp by looking for japanese shoegaze with zero purchases and fault!! is way better than i was expecting off something like this
this is middle school core but in a good way, like it's that kind of cool slick vaguely edgy shit but it doesn't make you want to cringe and throw up
i can not fucking believe they are putting that el scorcho cover on the album. like we get it. you like weezer. stop trying to be like them in every possible aspect of your band. it is actively making you worse. no one has ever tried to be like weezer and came out of it better than when they started
Hey, I'm Almy, and I'm here to present the award for Most Overproduced Song of the Year. Let's see our contenders!
1. 綺羅キラー (𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘵. 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘪 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘱𝘦) 𝘣𝘺 𝘡𝘜𝘛𝘖𝘔𝘈𝘠𝘖
The rapping is way too fast, the feature just exists to increase streams, and the folksy guitar is unnecessary in a rap rock styled song. it's a perfect contender.
2. ミラーチューン 𝘣𝘺 𝘡𝘜𝘛𝘖𝘔𝘈𝘠𝘖

reminds me of silhouette by kana-boon which is some of the highest praise you can give a j-rock song. the only issue with this song is it's so fucking good and then every other song on the album is just this but worse
Released under the name DJ Newtown, tofubeats' next album is 2019’s West Members. I think this fits in with the main discography because every song on this album is built around a sample from a tofubeats song. For example, IMM(FUM) is built around Immortal Love from RUN, WHA samples What You Got from Fantasy Club, and SOW samples So What!? from Lost Decade. It’s also not at all a pop album, it’s a straight up house album.
Just like how the base Immortal Love is probably the ... read more
I said I was gonna review all his albums, but iIll go off track here to talk about his 2020 EP, TBEP. Very creative name on that one. The real star of the show is the first song Conspiracy Theory, which kinda blows everything else here out of the water. It’s a 5 minute super energetic and rhythmic pop song that’s pure fun. It’s a super addicting song too so once you listen to it once or twice it’s gonna be stuck in your head, and you’re gonna go back more and more. ... read more
Now, his most recent album, 2022’s Reflection. And this is his best one.
This album has a good mix of everything Tofubeats has done over the years, and is probably the best introduction to his music. It’s got some hype and catchy pop songs, some rapping, some completely pointless 3 minute long EDM excursions, and some even more completely pointless 8 minute long EDM excursions.
The immediate highlight here is Peak Time, which is so catchy and awesome I named it my song of the year ... read more
top 3 anime song that deserves every ounce of the hype it gets. the melody is insane

Welcome to an album review for the new Femme Fatale album Fuckin' Sisters. As far as I know, they are actual sisters. I know absolutely nothing about Femme Fatale other than they are an idol group, and this album title is the only reason I checked this out. What have I gotten myself into.
The first song is Role of a Life, and if nothing else, it’s a statement of purpose. This song blasts through pretty much every popular idol music trope. You’ve got the weird ... read more
lyrical school debuts their brave, new, forward thinking generation by ripping off a kanye west song from 2008 and that feels like an appropriate summary of alt-idol culture at this point in time
there's an alternate universe where this dude stops putting pointlessly long mediocre instrumental hip hop tracks on his albums and unfortunately we aren't in that alternate universe
full review: This album makes the very weird choice of starting on a weirdly aggressive 2 minute trap song that sounds like shit, immediately followed by a skit. You know it’s a skit because he called it skit. Even though it’s not a skit and is actually an interlude. And it should be called shit. If ... read more
His last album Positive, was really uninteresting most of the time. On a related note, 2017’s Fantasy Club. This got a pitchfork review. And a really positive one at that. That’s bizarre considering this is his 2nd worst album.
One thing you’re gonna notice here is that this album is a lot more barebones. Most of the features are gone, replaced with instrumentals and tofubeats singing, and the album is also a lot less pop focused, instead being more within the realm of future ... read more
pretty much every song has a fantastic chorus/hook and then the rest of the song feels phoned in. if you just want really catchy epic chorus moments though this is the album for you

This is a band that I’ve been aware of for a very long time but I only started really getting into recently. They’ve got some classics in their discography, their first three albums are all incredibly chaotic but also incredibly awesome. It’s generally been accepted that they’ve been in a bit of a decline for the last decade or so however. This is their first album in 5 years though, and even though 5/9 of the songs were singles, it's still ... read more
