A very enjoyable jaunt from Mr. Creator.
While Chromakopia stayed serious most of the way through, with heavier topics, Don't Tap The Glass is exactly what those disappointed with Chromakopia needed, and what all Tyler fans wanted. This is wildly fun, great beats and vocal performances. One of the best rap albums of the year, just behind LGSEO.
I'm using this to review all of sznz as a whole, not just winter. Sznz starts on an extreme high note, with both I want a dog and Iambic pentameter. I genuinely LOVE both of these songs, I Want A Dog is a top 10 weezer song for me. In general, Autumn, Summer, and Winter are all very enjoyable, fun projects that I had a great time with. Unfortunately, spring really brings it down. It's just not my style of music mainly, but hearing what I can only describe as Mumford and Sons type ... read more
This album is on a constant quest to top itself for "worst song on the album". Worst part, arguably, is that it starts REALLY good. Personally, everything up to Flex Up is at least an 8/10. Island Holiday, however... is a complete mess, even if somewhat enjoyable because of how funny it is. If I played guitar, however, is genuinely just bad. And from that point, there's not much redemption. Peanuts 2 N Elephant is actually pretty fun imo, Bein Myself is enjoyable, and Written ... read more
I'm sorry, but if you can listen to this album and not have a good time, I don't trust you. This is one of the most accessible dumb fun albums ever created. Weezer forever.
Possibly my favorite album of all time. I felt so many emotions, and from just instrumentals and weird found footage esc sounds. This is a genuine masterclass on how music is art. An absolute must listen for anyone.
First off, biases.
Never really listened to Carti before, so I'm not just going to say everything he makes is good. In fact, I considered myself to not like Carti from the songs I had listened to. This is my first time listening to a full album of his, and I am pleasantly surprised.
The songs are somewhat repetitive at times, maybe more so if I had listened to the rest of his discography, but the incredibly long 30 song tracklist actually helps it here. The repetitive songs feel spaced ... read more
One of the best Kanye albums honestly. Genuinely really beautiful and hit close to home at times. Violent crimes almost made me cry.
This is a genuinely insane album that succeeds on all accounts. It's like 100 gecs met Yeezus and fused in the greatest sense. So underrated.
Best: a vulgar display of power
Worst: maybe jihad joe? there's like nothing bad here lmao
Dear god, he's done it. This is actually... pretty good! In my zone is essentially discount tv off but damn, i am SO here for the yuno miles non-meme era.
One of kendricks worst. Of course, that means it's still great. Wacced out murals, squabble up, and tv off are absolutely great, and there isn't a real specific low point I can point to.
Edit: I have completely switched my tune, this is one of kendricks best. Reincarnated, wacced out murals, squabble up, tv off, man at the garden, hey now, heart part 6... all easily 9/10 or above. And personally, I'll say it, I liked gnx (the song) too. To me, no song falls below an 8, with a ... read more
This album is really, really close to being one of my favorite albums of all time. But I have one main complaint, and it's big enough that it drags it from a 95 to an 85. Almost all of these songs are just way too long. Listen, I have nothing against a long song. euphoria, one my favorite songs last year, is 6 minutes. Dark Fantasy, about 5 minutes, might be my favorite on the album. However, not all of these songs need to be as long as they are. Listen, as much as I love Runaway, like ... read more
I listened to this album after watching a video by a channel called hivemind, where they were making a bracket of some of their favorite albums. Yeezus ended up winning against TPAB. An absolutely absurd choice at first, but the metaphor they gave was great, and I think represents exactly how I feel about it. I'll paraphrase a bit, but it was essentially, "If I want jazz, there's other great jazz I can listen to or rap over to create something similar to To Pimp a Butterfly. But ... read more
As I've become more of a music fan in general, listening to albums that I've heard great things about, or checking the public opinion of an album I love, I am often left baffled. Now, I try to respect peoples opinions when it comes to any types of media. For instance, I've never gotten into country. I've tried, but it isn't my thing. And so, I just don't engage in those discussions. But while I do respect opinions, I so often am just left to wonder... how? Same ... read more
What do you even want me to say here? It's the first album I got on vinyl, it's the album that got me far more into rap as a whole, it's genius. Everything he wanted to do here, he does, and with flying colors. Absolutely incredible.
Oh hell yeah.
This album is awesome, and is what introduced me to Tyler. I'm really glad it did, as listening back on his discography, he's now one of my favorite artists. I wouldn't say there's a definitive low point on this album, or even a major critique, but I wish he just did more. Admittedly, I'm not even totally sure what I mean by that. But this album does leave something to be desired. Overall though, I'd say It's one of my favorite albums of his, ... read more
Man, BabyTron just kills everything he does. If there's one artist I'm a meatrider for, It's BabyTron. That is all, I rest my case.
To me, this is easily the best Tyler album. His rapping on this album is impeccable, and I really can't get enough of it. There isn't even much more to say, just bangers from start to finish. For the record, I don't particularly rate the Deluxe edition over the normal CMIYGL, I just like the cover more, so I'm reviewing this one.
I love every single track on this album. I would consider it almost perfect. If I had to give a complaint, I would say that some of the songs are quite similar to each other, meaning the variety on the album suffers somewhat. But is that really that much of a complaint when what they do give you is so incredible? I find this to be the definitive best King Gizzard project, even as someone who isn't traditionally a metal fan.
Perhaps I'm wrong for this, but I certainly don't consider this Tyler's best work. While yes, songs like EARFQUAKE and NEW MAGIC WAND are great, none of the other ones stand out to me personally, except maybe IGOR'S THEME. This isn't to say the album is bad, far from it. The story is great, and the mood it sets out to create is done very well. But I rarely find myself coming back to IGOR, and I disagree with it being hailed as a near perfect album.
