DULL, uninspired, and sonically lifeless
I usually tend to enjoy his music but this did not hit the mark for me
“There’s AAAAA BUGGGG in my CAAAAR!” man, I wish that’s what he was saying, because at first it felt so relatable.
Geese gives you a feeling you just don’t get in music anymore. It’s that perfect mix of happy, sad, and unhinged, and somehow it actually calms me down when I listen to it.
I’d love a little more of Cameron Winter’s solo sound in the mix, but I guess that’s exactly why he makes his own music.

I do think that Lenker’s magnificent, awe inspiring writing is still there, but most of these songs just don’t catch me in any way. All of the heart feels lost in bad melodies. This is true for most of the album, but not Los Angeles. That song is beyond beautiful. “Even without looking you call we come together even without speaking you sang for me.” I mean, wow. It’s not my favorite Big Thief album, but this one song really stands out for me.
Honestly, who sounds like The Smiths? Confident desperation is the only way I can describe this. It’s great walking music, calming yet somehow motivating in a strange way. I’ve spent a long time with this album and still find it hard to pin down. I love it, but sometimes I feel like I don’t fully get it. I’ll definitely be reading other reviews to see the bigger picture.
