What a great album start to finish. This has to be Jessie Ware's strongest work to date. A touch of disco and funk give the album a great vibe. Her voice sounds better than ever and like she had a blast creating this.
Another brilliant album from Arca. This might be her most accessible album up to this point, but it doesn't shy away from the crunchy industrial sounds we have to come to know and love her for. Nobody makes albums that sound like Arca. She is wholly unique. An expert sound designer and producer along with being a great song writer. The album somehow ends stronger than it starts, but it ebbs and flows in such a strange and beautiful way that demands your attention throughout. The guest ... read more
Impressive album from Naeem. Have only recently become familiar with his work from the 37d03d label. Love how the album swings from R&B/Soul to bigger Hip-Hop style productions to House/Dance to minimal art pop tracks. He has an impressive voice to flow through each with ease. Unsure of how big of a part he played, but the album sonically seems to have a lot of Justin Vernon's fingerprints on it. Looking forward to wearing this one out. Top tracks are "Simulation", "Lets ... read more
An album full of beautiful soundscapes and interesting movements. Weaving electronics, found sounds, orchestration and cut up guitars, these two have created a piece of work that you can fall into like a dream. There are some nods to collage artists The Books and you can hear a bit of both members other more prominent projects pop through (Explosions in the Sky, Eluvium). "Continuous Portrait", "Close to People" (which sounds like a less doomy Mogwai track), ... read more
What an interesting and novel album from these guys. Darting around different styles yet somehow making something so unique and compelling. It is too long and it doesn't really get going until "Frail State of Mind". There are some misses, but the hits are some of the best work they've done up to this point. I can see this being a very polarizing album to those who loved their early work, but I'd say I Jumped on the train on "Brief Inquiry...". They don't seem to be afraid of ... read more
Have always loved Jaar's ambient work. This is a great extension. The sound design and textures on this record are incomparable. Could use a bit more energy and urgency, especially at over 50 minutes. He never quite drops anything that hits until the final track. "Mud", "Sunder" and "Faith Made of Silk" the standouts.
This feels like lifestyle music. Like you want to be good looking and rich? Here are some songs to make you feel that way. Not a lot of substance and derivative. They are fun songs that I can hear at someones wedding. But thats where it stops for me.
Another gorgeous sounding record from Other Lives. They have really dialed in their sound on this one. Has their usual flare of chamber pop mixed with spaghetti western riffs, but the recording itself is exceptional and detailed. Really enjoying this album with each listen, happy to have a new record in hand. "Cops", "All Eyes- For Their Love", and "We Wait" the standouts on the record.
