i'm only dying without only dying on this album πŸ’”πŸ’”πŸ’”

Deftones - milk of the madonna
93

2nd single ahead of Deftones upcoming album, and this one slaps so hard. Definitely getting hints of Koi No Yokan and a bit of Ohms, similar to the other single, but also doesn't really sound much like my mind is a mountain. This one's more melodic as opposed to the first single's pungeant, heavy riffs. Honestly this is probably the most excited I've ever been for an album release.

PART 1 OF REVIEWING EVERY DEFTONES ALBUM IN ORDER UNTIL THEY RELEASE THE NEW ALBUM

Probably the most underrated and overhated Deftones album.

You can definitely sense the potential through those powerful riffs, Chino's signature vocals, and the overall rawness of the album is so standard for this era of nu-metal, which was pretty much in its prime by this point. Is this the quintessential nu-metal album? Not really, but it's a very solid debut album and it holds up against other ... read more

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper
100

Wait, the guy from Hivemind makes music?

Quadeca has always been someone I've been familiar with, and I've known that he's a musician of high calibre, but I guess what stopped me from being able to take him seriously was the fact that he used to make diss tracks on YouTube and imitate other rappers styles for views, which were both things that I loved, but I couldn't imagine the same person making music like this. It's also pretty funny that the Quadeca you see in ... read more

Deftones - my mind is a mountain

This song genuinely seems like they heard what their competition was making, and decided to one up them in the greatest way possible. You can definitely hear that they're still in their Ohms style, but it's been tweaked to be even more aggressive and a punch in the face, and it sounds fantastic.

Jane Remover - Revengeseekerz
90

If WLR was a firecracker, this album is the atomic bomb.

JRJRJR was my introduction to Jane Remover, and when I heard it, I was totally hooked, so when I heard that she'd released an album soon after that single, I knew I had to listen. This is such a breath of fresh air from all the garbage that the rage genre puts out, from artists like Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, Trippie Redd, Playboi Carti and so many others who have all been on steep declines.

I'll be honest, on the first ... read more

Bleed - Bleed
77

Anyone else see that tiktok talking about this album being one of some random guys favorite albums?

As the revival of nu-metal keeps growing stronger and stronger, Bleed integrates themselves really well with this debut, self-titled album. The Texas-based group emerge into the scene with a record full of shoegaze influenced nu-metal, which is often cloudy and well-produced, as well as being full of reverbed, heavily effected vocals which work great alongside the brash riffs and pungeant drums ... read more

Lucy Bedroque - Unmusique
82

This was my first time listening to Lucy Bedroque, and I gotta admit that I'm pretty amazed at his consistency. The rage songs on this mixtape go crazy hard and are far apart from other songs in the genre. The closest comparisons I have for him are prettifun and Che, but even then, Lucy's consistency outmatches them by far. Every song on this album is innovative and different. Rage has never sounded this good whilst being this consistent, and I'm in love with it. I wish I had ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - DON'T TAP THE GLASS
87

Finally, we see Tyler going back to his groovy, almost jazz rap ways on some of these songs, which were always my favorites. To me, this sounds like a mix of Igor, CMIYGL, and Cherry Bomb in a lot of the best ways, with Cherry Bomb's jazzy songs like FIND YOUR WINGS and FUCKING YOUNG/PERFECT, Igor's synth-filled, beautifully orchestrated song style appearing in tracks like Don't You Worry Baby, Ring Ring Ring, as well as CMIYGL's rapping style, which is a great return to ... read more

Death - Symbolic

my favourite metal album of all time and one of my favourite bands of all time. this album fuuuucks. one of my first death metal discoveries and it didn't disappoint for a single second of the entirety of the record.

favs in order: Without Judgement, Zero Tolerance, Symbolic, Crystal Mountain, Sacred Serenity

Che - Sayso Says

really solid, but it's inconsistent at times. really high highs and somewhat low lows. some really cool and unique stuff on here and i love how che's voice meshes with this style of production as opposed to his older music.

favs in order: It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To, SASKA YOU MADE IT, NUNCA HACER COCAINCA
least favs: Chidren Shouldn't Play WIth Dead Things, Pissy Coffee
