While sufficiently indulgent and well produced, I unfortunately couldn't really get into this. I love shoegaze but this album feels formulaic and blends so well that it makes it a bit of a forgettable experience.
Tyranny and Virtue 'til I die but MAN this is so mid. Sonically and production wise this is pretty satisfactory but wow the autotune really took it a step too far this time. I thought that on Like All Before You the autotune was fine, just a shame that most of the songs were irredeemable. Drifto is the only song that might grow on me, all the others were pretty much a dud.
It feels wrong to give a score this low, but I need to stay true to myself. I feel exactly the same as when I listened to the latest Jane Remover album: I recognize the artistry, the talent, the effort, but I just cannot get into it.
I have never really been a fan of Folktronica to begin with. Bon Iver's "22, A Million" is the best experience I had with the genre and I still truly love that record. Everything else in the genre since has not been able to astonish me, and this ... read more
In the current indierock era where Wet Leg is considered the cream of the crop, the genre is dead in the water unless you are an indie artist who doesn't want to make it big. But then there is this album, and my hope returns ever so slightly.
My intrigue for this album is solely based around the label Forth Wanderers is under, Sub Pop. I usually care absolutely zero for labels and still don't, but all I know is that this label recently added Nation Of Language to their lineup, a band ... read more
It's actually crazy how fabricated and passionless this feels. Algorithm music.
Moving away from the lo-fi aesthetic doesn't work in Alex G's favour here. While I am not the biggest fan of Trick (only Sarah and Clouds I actually love) I appreciated the vibe and had an overall pretty alright time. Headlights is just kinda too clean to be noteworthy. Nothing warrants a response from the listener, nothing really attempts to pique your interest. There are some cool production bits here and there and the instrumentation is also pretty cool sometimes, albeit ... read more
Ts put me right to sleep 🥀🥀🥀
Even when the vocals convey any kind of emotion at all (like on davina mccall) the instrumentals are so fucking boring man. Every song is the same, blah blah blah, idk how to stretch this any further. Lifeless, mindless indie rock that is outclassed by most underground indie bands.
Many people told me HAIM were worth checking out. This is the first time I sit down and listen to a full record (I heard no body, no crime with Taylor Swift but didn't like it).
This album is a mix of Sabrina Carpenter, Mitski (just a little) and especially Taylor Swift esque pop music. And when you try to be too many things at once it comes out as tasteless and unoriginal. It's so squeaky clean it washes away any semblance of blood, sweat, and tears. If you told me AI made this, I ... read more
Definitely expected this to sound more generational than it actually did. Might be my lack of experience with hip-hop though.
Slamming my head against a wall while listening just to feel something.
Seriously why did I listen to this? From song 1 I wanted it to end ASAP. I pushed on and tried to find anything redeemable in this. I guess some of the instrumentals are ok??????? But then Mr. Boone backflips onto the track and ruins it completely with a tone I can't stand and horrible brainless lyrics. Man In Me is the perfect example of this.
Remember when Fireflies was on the radio all the time? Take me back to ... read more
It truly pays to have low expectations sometimes, because it made this album so much more rewarding. I like every single song on this for their own reasons and I had such a great time listening to this.
While not as fantastic as Different Class, Pulp still got it! This will be a great summer soundtrack.
Criminally inoffensive. The instrumentals are pretty good (especially on I CARE), but the vocal melodies are rather uninspiring, bland, and make every song rather forgettable. The best bits of the record are the ambient sections, but that's not gonna save this album. The mix is not punchy like on Glow On, the vocals are awkwardly placed in the mix. IDK???? I just didn't vibe with this at all.
Guitar music, without any real aggression (except for Birds I guess). I do like this band ... read more
The album embodies the sharpness that would be perfected on the best moments of Mountainhead, but still lacks on the songwriting aspect sometimes. Regardless it is still a fun record with some great songs
For me, Bon Iver is best at his quirkiest. I will forever love 22, A Million to bits, but all his other releases just don't hit as hard for me. Still, the albums are great, just lost on my ears.
This is like if BCNR redid The Glow Pt.2, but no one agrees on which song to play first and they all just play whatever
It's a mess for sure, but we shouldn't dismiss the songs that actually do sound great. Ice Shelf, Bugging Out Again, The Men Who Dance in Stag's Heads and Wandering Genie I actually enjoyed quite a bit.
All the other songs are, well, I don't even know how to describe them because they are so forgettable I don't even remember what makes them so pointless and dull
I really like their third record, the other 2 I think are generally alright with a lot of filler.
But what is this?????????
