Yeah, I completely see why this is divisive. This does not seem like the type of thing that'd appeal to Lou Reed fans at all lol, but as someone who is a fan of artists like Roland Kayn and Uboa the sound of this this record doesn't bother me. In fact, I find a lot of the textures and sounds on this album to actually quite immersive and while yeah it can be a bit of a big ask to sit through 60 minutes of this stuff without much variation and the music that it would inspire would go on ... read more
Honestly this rating is biased as fuck but I just love this era of Elliott Smith's music so much
My friend Dan turned me towards this band a long, LONG while ago and I am absolutely kicking myself for putting this off as long as did. This record kicks so much ass. The pinnacle of the 90's Queercore scene as far as I'm concerned. Dan please forgive me :)
Top tier skrams. A total thrashfest with searing fucking riffs, grimy bass and strained vocals that sounds like the guy swallows glass for fun, Y'know? The usual. But with the variety that stops it falling pray to the samey-ness a lot of other records within the genre do. It may not be what I'm always in the mood for but it rips regardless.
Completely fucking ridiculous front to back. Sometimes it can be a little annoying and childish (Hello Kitty comes to mind) but for the most part this is a super enjoyable, manic af hyperpop album with a fun silly sense of humour and it's clear Alice has shown herself as one to watch. I won't lie, I've had Come 2 Brazil on repeat since I've heard it, ridiculous bop.
The best of both worlds with a mix of the more intense angry noise rock influenced Yanqui U.X.O and the beautifully morose chamber rock of Skinny Fists. Proving that they're still THE post-rock band even after a long hiatus with incredible gratifying slow-burn spectacle (even if Mladic kind of overshadows most of it but it's all great).
Bro legit just casually dropped rock album of the year. This thing goes hard af and is just so fucking addictive. This shit is like musical crack.
Decent but it doesn't stick with me. I will say I really like the vocals on this, which given some of the complaints I thought I was gonna hate them but no honestly they aren't too different to some of the more expressive and emotional vocalists from classic 70's glam rock which I fw. On that, I also just really like the glam influence on this album as a whole and the ethereal almost psychedelic sound they're trying for.
As for my complaints though, the production on this ... read more
God, this thing is absolutely mesmerising. I went into this, having heard it, but having no memory of it and after hearing that monolithic opening track. Not that I didn't like it, the track was fucking mindblowing!
Some of the wildest percussion I've heard on an album ever, it's seemingly boundless energy and just absolutely breathtaking atmosphere, it was an incredible experience but I was unsure how they could follow it up as they went full guns blazing out the gate, how the fuck do you ... read more
The singles towards this album were incredibly missleading this seems to be a transitional album for IDLES, they seem to be testing the water with some interesting ideas but nothing interesting really seems to come out of it and what also doesnt help is the production and the mix is pure ass which surprises me with names as legendary as Nigel Godrich on the mix, it leave a lot of the punkier cuts sounding really flat, lacking the punch of their old material and the more gothic artsy tracks ... read more
I can somewhat see the back lash towards this, but I think you are all being waaaay too harsh on this. It's a mixed bag for sure, but it's not bad by any means. I personally would really like to see her expand on some of these experiments on future albums (even if given her track record with these drop eps, she probably won't). Mood Swings and Torch are in your face dance-y club bangers even if Mood Swings is kinda held back by muddy production on the chorus but still a choon. Power is a short ... read more
This to me is the definitive Lil Ugly Mane experience. Boundry pushing and creative, yet soul crushing and deeply personal. When this album hits it can feel like a massive gut punch and some of these lyrics I feel are gonna stick with me for a while. It's got a few micro duds especially in the last quarter of the record that stop it from being a masterpiece but overall this is nothing short of amazing and I'd say give it a go but make sure you're in the right headspace because as I've said it ... read more
