Sugababes - Catfights and Spotlights
60

Overall a basic pop record that leaves little to no imprint as compared to their previous records. The 60s throwback theme is at best minimal and at worst extremely scarce. The standouts on the album are the understated ballads that really shine through as compared to the bigger production tracks. Lyrically, it is okay. Better than some of their previous work at some points, middling most of the record.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Shoot from the Hip

On Shoot From the Hip, Sophie strays from her the glitzy pop sound of her 2001 debut, Read My Lips, and explores a somewhat-darker, weird sound. Overall, the star of this album is the production. The lyrics are fine and the vocals are somewhat dead-pan, but the production is what carries the album. I like the darker sound and I think it beautifully compliments her voice. There are some great tracks and some ultimately forgettable ones, but this was great for a sophomore album.

Shakira - She Wolf

On She Wolf Shakira explores dance-pop and electro-pop sounds, straying away from her traditional latin pop sound. Overall this sound works for her and is a great avenue for her to play were vocal abilities. She does some experimentation that pays off in the moody "Men in this Town" but falls flat in "Spy". She manages to create a cohesive album without it sounding terribly repetitive, but just as you feel like it is getting going and you want more, she cuts you off. Sitting ... read more

Avril Lavigne - The Best Damn Thing
74

The Best Damn Thing sees Avril watering down her grungy sound from Under My Skin for a more mainstream, girly, pop rock sound. Overall this album is just okay. It is her first album where there seems to be a lot of filler, and there is so much similarity throughout the trackllsit that you feel like you've already heard each sound 5 times before. It is fun and enjoyable and there are some great moments.

Ashlee Simpson - Autobiography
81

Autobiography sees Ashlee taking a messier, rock -edged path compared to her sister. This is a great album for the most part. The middle of the album (tracks 5--8) feels a bit redundant but towards the end it is pretty great. Lyrically it's a typical Avril Lavigne-esqe style.
