Vinta give us their second record, continuing their style mixture of modern metalcore with emo-esk vocals & melodies with deep german lyrics. The record has many highpoints scattered throughout, with some filler in between. The songs, that dont stand out as much, blend in very neatly and arent distinct enough to really pick out. The record is also very short, which kinda makes it feel incomplete. Also the production feels slightly muddy and distant.
Its a well made record with very ... read more
Im probably the wrong type of listener for this. I can recognize how well its made and what its trying to do. But i really cant get into it. I get bored. But im relatively sure thats a me problem, so i wont dedact points due to this.
The riffs on this record are crunchy, the vocals fit and the quiet moments keep up the high level of variance this record offers. The songs are quite long, but dont feel like dragged out.
Overall a good job on this record, just not my style!
Its a decent Alt Metal / Metalcore record, with good riffs, fun chorusses and some good breakdowns. It doesnt really stand out though, so i will have no real drive to go back to it.
But if you like this style, please go ahead!
I know im in the minority here. But this to me is a marvel for both genres. Its the refreshment that the elitist tinged movement of Black Metal has, needs and the influence that Metalcore (and maybe if you want to call it Octancecore even) wants to expand their horizons on. This record combines Black Metal and its dark and gloomy atmosphere with the hooks and structures of Modern Metal / Metalcore. It is a rather drastic change for Gaerea, which will 100% alienate alot of fans of the Band, and ... read more
Fully fine generic deathcore, got a recommendation for this by a friend. Listen to it if you like modern deathcore. If you dont, dont even bother. Its a good but very much generic and typical record for its genre.
I am somehow addicted to this record.
Its the first time ive heard of "The Listener" as a band and colour me impressed. They blend Black Metal with Hardcore Rythms and Punk energy. The Riffs are hooky and athmospheric as im used to from Black Metal, the Hardcore rythms break up the formular and deliver the energy that a record like this needs. The vocals fit the style and the length of it is perfect, since it doesnt overstay its welcome with the concise 30minutes. Overall, really a ... read more
This is one of the rare times, where i feel like the mixture of rap and metalcore / hardcore adjacent music does work. It flows well, the rap combined with the cuggs is fun etc. But thats also where my big positives end. The Album has tons and tons of filler on it, many songs feel completely unnessesary and really repetetive. Sadly this bled into me not finding many favourite songs here, only "Enjoy The Show" stood out to me. But if you liked Nu-Metal and wanted to find out how it ... read more
This is very generic, but well done. Its what you expect from odern metalcore without any quirks or curve balls. The melodies are fine, the riffs are okay etc. But they keyword to this is "generic". I didnt mind it, but it did almost nothing to stand out from the rest. Also the production is very weirdly unclean for an record like this.
This suprised me. I never really enjoyed Lamb Of Gods full records. But this was very good. The riffs absolutely bang, the vocals are buried, but it works well with randys vocals and the atmosphere they create is brutal and dark. It doesnt overstay its welcome with its inherent 40 mins of runtime. My only gripes are the monotony that some songs can bring and the similarity between songs making the album a blurry burner. Still very well done!
This is a hard hitting, well executed beatdown metalcore/deathcore record with very apparent hardcore inspiration. Its fun, groovy and very relentless. Sadly the single songs themselves dont stand out as much as they could. But as a short and sweet record it works well. Nothing ill go back to alot though since its a little to monotone for my taste!
Unheilig returns. I had my hopes up cause i loved alot of their output in their late years. But this... really isnt it. It feels like money grab and to put out music cause you need to. Not because you want to.
The music feels lackluster, almost nothing interesting is happening. The lyrics are very boring and one dimensional. He only talks about how happy he is to see us all back and how much he has to tell us, but proceeds to have nothing to say whatsoever.
Ontop of that the record is really ... read more
A relatively generic Atmospheric Black Metal release, without much sticking out. Well made, but nothing special.
This si a really interesting record. It combines Black Metal with Hardcore and Post Metal Influences. Its well crafted and executed, but apart from 1 or 2 songs, it didnt stick much for me, which is a real bummer since it seems to be a record i really should enjoy! Itll still get a favourable rating from me!
Heres me, trying Powerviolence once again. And i just dont get it. Like the music sounds good, i like the brutality, the anger etc. But i just dont ever remember anything about it when its done playing. Its just not memorable for me. I wish i could rate this higher, but its seemingly just not made for me!
This is a solid Black Metal outing. Its nothing groundbreaking and wont change your mind on the genre probably.
The instrumentals are very solid on here, the piano on "Smile Of Hate" was a massive standout, aswell as the female vocals on "Loving The Dead". Sadly most other songs are relatively unremarkable. Not bad, but others have done the style better.
Youll enjoy it if you like the genre, im sure!
This EP makes me sad. The 3 Covers up front set the bar extremely low. All 3 were obnoxious and sounded dull. Then the 3 original songs werent terrible, but they couldnt save this EP. I really liked their last full-length record, but this? This is just a no go. Its only in the 40s, due to the last 3 songs not being terrible.
Erra suprised me with their 7th record. Not in a sense of what we got, but with how much i actually enjoyed it. I got to know them through their record "Drift" that i discovered shortly before their self-titeled came out. These two records really hooked me in. "Cure" in 2024 lost me completely. All that smart riffage, the fun breakdowns and unpredictable structures were gone. Now in "silence outlives the earth" is a step toward the better for me again. It still ... read more
I really wanted to like this record. But the riffs are generic, the lyrics are boring, the breakdowns were no standouts. The production was flat and boring and the screaming vocals really had a nasty tone to them that made them barely listenable. Yes it can always be worse, but in regards of modern metalcore that isnt octanecore, this is really close to the bottomline...
I have never heard about this project before this record. But all i gotta say is that its really good. Nothing groundbreaking, but their mixture of Ice Nine Kills' theatrics, a7x's vocal type and riffs mixed with a whiff of power metal throughout is something i havent really heard before. There are definitively some highlights on the record that overshine some others. But the songs are consitently atleast good. The lyrics can get into cringe territory, but its forgiven as the ... read more
