Tyler, The Creator - CHROMAKOPIA
88

This is a strong personal project from Tyler, showing him at his most open and vulnerable. The production is incredible and there are plenty of tracks with amazing replay value. That being said, there are some weaker moments that keep it from being fully consistent. Still definitely one of the best albums of last year though

Favs: Thought I Was Dead / I Hope You Find Your Way Home / St. Chroma / Take Your Mask Off

Tame Impala - Loser

MILES better than the previous single, especially off first listen. I really enjoyed the groovy prod on here and am looking forward to the album

Sampha - Lahai (Deluxe)
92

Of course I gotta talk about the deluxe too. A little under a year later we get 4 incredible additions to this already stunning album. First of all I just wanna start of by saying, I am not a fan of remixes, but Satellite Business 2.0 and Dancing Circles 2.0 do it right. Sampha bends these two tracks to make them sound completely unique. The first 3 bonus tracks are seriously some of his best material to date, and the fact they are coming from a deluxe is WILD. I'm not usually big on ... read more

This project is pure vibes from start to finish. I absolutely love the sounds on this album. The soundscape is this gorgeous ethereal almost alter dimensional experience. Sampha's vocals elevate it even further, adding this deep emotion and connection to make every track hit. Absolutely breathtaking listen everytime

Favs: Suspended / Spirit 2.0 / What If You Hypnotise Me? / Jonathan L. Seagull

Joey Bada$$ - Lonely At The Top
80

I'm honestly underwhelmed. This just sounds like standard Joey Bada$$. Almost a little disappointed since I also felt this way about 2000 and was hoping for a bit of a bounce back after 3 years. The two singles released are honestly the only highpoints on here and the outro track. Project just feels stale and lacking at times. Its not bad music by any means, but its also not anything special either.

Favs: LONLEY AT THE TOP / DARK AURA / STILL

John Michel - Egotrip

Funny story, I've been meaning to listen to this since it came out and just never have. Now that I've finally got to it, it was an enjoyable and unique listen. While the sound of this project isn't personally my thing, I still cant deny that the production and arrangement was excellent, albeit maybe slightly overdone.

Favs: Going Down / PREACHER! / NOBODY

J. Cole - Might Delete Later
77

More than a year has past and I still think this project gets wayyyy too much hate. I still play a good handful of songs off here to this day. Whilst i can agree there are some pretty mid or trash songs on here, its not a 5/10 album. Pricey and Trae The Truth are amazing. Fever does fucking suck though yes.

Favs: Trae The Truth in Ibiza / Pricey / Stickz N Stonez

GIVĒON - BELOVED
80

Giveon has such a compelling and unique voice tone that its difficult to put into words. Production for the most part is good and vibey, but nothing outstanding. There is a good amount of replay value but I don't think ill be revisiting it in full. I really wish track 7 was longer

Favs: DON'T LEAVE / AVALANCHE / RATHER BE

Little Simz - GREY Area
94

She's been killing this shit for years. Top tier rapper layered with mental production. This album is freaking incredible, may be one of my favorites from 2019

Favs: Selfish / Pressure / Offence

Rich Brian - WHERE IS MY HEAD?
85

EXTREMELY surprised with this album. My friend recommended this and, wow! The production on this project is SOOO enticing and Rich Brian really showcases his talents as an artist. Also. Timezones is literally frickn incredible

Favs: Timezones / Jumpy / Ma / Fat Cats, Starving Dogs / Body High

Playboi Carti - MUSIC

I don't get the hype with this guy. This entire album is just so damn bloated and nothing really stands out here other than maybe 3-4 songs id really come back to. People really waited 5 years for this, I don't get it.

Favs: GOOD CREDIT / RATHER LIE by far

Samara Cyn - backroads

Pretty solid 5 song EP. Found out about her from the XXL cypher and honestly sorta intrigued for what’s next.

Fav: hardheaded by far

Favs: untitled 03 / untitled 02 / untitled 06 / first part of untitled 07

Kid Cudi - Free

Yeah, not much to say except its aight. Couple good songs and def a comeback from Insaneo.

Favs: Deep Diving / Submarine / Opiate

Joey Bada$$ - STILL
90

Ok then, random drop from Joey and it’s very fire. Rapsody cooked that hook and Ab-Soul went OFF. This was what I was looking for. Pretty damn hype for the album.

Khamari - To Dry a Tear
90

He's filling the void in all our hearts. Jokes aside, fantastic sophomore release from Khamari, and cannot wait for more

Favs: He Said, She Said / Lord Forgive Me / It's a Mad World

Steve Lacy - Nice Shoes
80

make it stop, make it stop, make it stop, make it stop.

McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
84

Discovered this dude shortly before this album dropped, and damnnnn what a hidden gem. Directors were on some crack and it shows. A lot of the tracks have that cinematic feel to them primarily because the live instrumentation. Only skip for me would be 'Crooked Stick,' just not a fan. Overall, severely underrated artist, would recommend.

Favs: Run, Run, Run Pt. 2 / Listen Gentle / Could've Been Different
