Sampha - Cumulus / Memory

Thank you Sampha, very cool!

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
95

Tyler The Creator's breakout project IGOR is simply just masterfully crafted and also 2019's AOTY for good reason. This album's production is nothing short of genius. It's layered with genre bending and defining sounds, emotional landscapes, and full of personality. Beyond its sound, IGOR tells a deep love story of the rise and fall of a relationship. It follows Igor as he falls in love, faces heartbreak, reaches acceptance, and then eventually tries to stay “just ... read more

Black Thought - UP

Bro we are SOOO back. That hook is literally generationally not even gonna hold you. Black Thought and Danger Mouse also left earth on this one once again. Album cannot come any sooner, what an unexpected drop. Go listen to Cheat Codes if you haven't already

Travis Scott - Days Before Rodeo
80

This is the project that laid the foundation for what Travis would eventually become. The first half of this album is amazing, it's packed with lots of moments that showcase his potential and flashes of brilliance as an artist. It's littered with all these unique sounds and ideas that just make such a cohesive story. The second half dips quite a bit but the standout moments are just way too good to ignore, especially in what I think is one of his best songs ever made with "Drugs ... read more

Key Glock - Glockaveli
72

Yeah I dunno, this was just alright. The first 5 tracks were fun and then the album just fell off basically lmao. There was a downward trend in that middle section all the way to the end and the beats just blended into each other making it sorta boring. I'd come back to like 4 songs tops on this one.

Favs: Glockaveli / Watch Da Throne / Again

Doja Cat - Vie
75

This is actually the first Doja Cat album I've ever listened to. Going in, I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be a pretty fun and enjoyable listen. The album jumps around a nice selection of unique and diverse sounds, with some catchy hooks here and there. Doja's rapping and singing performance is also really solid I cant lie. For the most part I liked the album but nothing really resonated with me, it was just a fun listen. Also some of these lyrics freaky as hell ... read more

The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow
82

I'd really like to enjoy this album but it just drags for me personally. Its not bad by any means, but when the majority of the songs range from alright to just good music with nothing really outstanding it gets reallllly old after a bit. I'm not a big Weeknd fan but I'd say most of his other work outshine this, especially Dawn FM and After Hours. The production on a lot of these songs are incredible, but I swear they blend way too much and after awhile it just starts to sound ... read more

Tame Impala - Dracula

HEEESSSS BAAAAACKKK! Dude the vibe of this song is literally fantastic. Prod and vocals are peak Kevin Parker. Once again another massive leap from the 2 previous singles. For sure going to be on repeat nonstop, no question about it. We've been getting so spoiled the last 2 years

Daniel Caesar - Moon
95

Daniel what the heck??? This is freaking beautiful... So ready for that album man

Pusha T - DAYTONA
94

Consisting of only 7 tracks, Daytona proves that less can be more. Pusha delivers razor sharp lyricism on top of Kanye's masterful production. I absolutely love this project and it is executed to near perfection.

Favs: The Games We Play / If You Know You Know / Santeria / Come Back Baby

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
90

I still remember this dropping on a random Friday out of literally nowhere. That was one absolutely crazy day. Dude put out a quick snippet on his yt page and literally 30 minutes later a full ass album was on streaming with no rollout. The wildest part is that GNX is his worst album, and yet its still a 9/10 project. That says a lot about how much of a generational talent Kendrick is. Seriously how do you make your worst album a 9/10 project. He's literally just having fun and trolling ... read more

Lupe Fiasco - Samurai DX
85

Really don't understand why Troy Tyler has been put on 3 of the songs from the original album and a remixed version of Samurai. Seems totally unnecessary, but okay. Anyways, High Note and SOS are really good, so I'm just gonna pretend this is a 2 song EP and rate off those.

Fav: High Note

Lupe Fiasco - Samurai
85

Really good 30 minute listen, with some interesting concepts and beats, and Lupe just flows over them seamlessly. Really solid addition to his catalog, and he's been getting back into form again. Love to see it

Favs: Samurai / No. 1 Headband / Palaces

ScHoolboy Q - BLUE LIPS

This album really isn't hitting the same for me as it did at release, which is unfortunate. There are a couple really good songs on here and an exception of an incredible song with "THank god 4 me," but the rest of the album is just sorta stale. I feel like a lot of these tracks needed another layer or something because the ideas were totally there and I'm really not a huge fan of the hooks on most of these songs. Overall, it wasn't a bad listen by any means, but I ... read more

Denzel Curry - ZUU
85

I absolutely freaking adore the first half of this album, because of its sheer intensity and unshakable vibe. Unfortunately, the second half doesn't really do it for me. Not saying its bad or anything, but I would've loved to see the same energy from the 1st part be copied onto the 2nd part. Its just really forgettable in my opinion, but at least the outro's pretty good though so there's that. That being said, it's still a really enjoyable album and that 1st part being ... read more

Denzel Curry & Kenny Beats - UNLOCKED
84

Finally getting around to listening to this after its been on my "next up" list for quite some time. I really didn't know what to expect, but wow was I pleasantly surprised with the experience. Clocking in at just under 20 minutes, this short EP does a lot in such a little amount of time. It feels like Zel and Kenny were set on seeing exactly how far they could push their creativity into such a condensed project. Zel is RAPPING on some of these tracks too man. I absolutely LOVE ... read more

Vince Staples - Dark Times

A really nice album from Vince Staples, that gets overshadowed with the various other projects that came out last year. Very enjoyable listen, but there a couple weak points hurting it overall. Its still very much worth a listen every once in awhile and through rotation. Could very well be his best to date.

Favs: Black&Blue / Étouffée / Shame On The Devil

TiaCorine - Backyard

JID SNAPPED. Not really a big fan of this prod, but they both went off.

Future - WE STILL DON'T TRUST YOU
60

This on the other hand... underwhelming as hell. I decided to give it another full spin, and honestly, my feelings haven’t changed. If anything, they’re just stronger. Even the songs I used to sorta mess with don't even hit anymore. The high points aren't even close to what WDTY presented. Yeahhh I'm just not tryna hear this bloatfest again with maybe 4 good songs total. Overall just really mid. Go listen to the real album.

Future - WE DON'T TRUST YOU

This album really carried the start of 2024 for me, I had it on repeat for months. Now, over a year later, I can appreciate just how much quality it still holds. In my opinion, it’s one of the best projects to drop last year. Sure, there are some low points, but that’s true for albums like Chromakopia and KOTMS. What stands out here are the incredible highs. There is so much replay value in a lot of these tracks with numerous memorable moments. And of course it started the Drake ... read more
