By far the best mixtape of the Trilogy. Production is super creative and unique and Abel's actual performances are so much better than the previous two. Transitions are sick ash too and the songs don't drag on and on like the previous mixtape.
Favs:
Fun album.
i think i like the sound of indie rock. Indie anything is peak tbh
Favs: Punching the Flowers // I Bult You a Tower (B) // The Flavor of Metal
Expected so much more from Dj Premier. Nas snapped on almost every track though.
Fav: Writers (pretty damn good but then he shouts out like 700 different people)
Enjoyable sure but overrated asf. Both the lyricism and production has a ton lacking. Something difficult to keep on replay
Favs: Wicked Games (by far) // The Knowing
also Twenty Eight is friggin incredible but its not on this
The concept of this album is absolutely insane.
Favs: Change // 4 Your Eyez Only // Immortal
The first four tracks are some of J. Cole's best material to date. So freaking good.
Favs: Home Soon // Die Together / Winter Wonderland
Not Cole's strongestt work but there's some good songs on here.
Favs: Let Nas Down // She Knows // Villuminati // Brothaz Know // Rich Brothaz
Deluxe tracks:
Miss America - 70
New York Times - 81
Is She Gon Pop - 82
Brothaz Know - 86
Sparks Will Fly - 76
Solid debut album for Cole. His two mixtapes before this are much better however
Favs: Breakdown // Lost Ones // Sideline Story
Going in I expected this to be extremely bloated since it has so many damn tracks but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit
Absolutely love the concept of this album, but the content itself is lacking.
Pretty damn insane for a debut project. Very very good album
Favs: Under Pressure (10/10 song) // Soul Food // Growing Pains // Metropolis
This album has always been hit or miss for me, and when I say hit or miss, I MEAN it. So many of these songs are genuinely great, but sandwiched in between is a lot of just-alright filler with production choices I really can't get behind.
The majority of the album ranges from amazing to exceptional. But those couple of songs slotted between the peaks drag the whole thing down more than they probably should.
Fav: Kick, Push // Daydreamin' // The Insturmental // Sunshine
