imma just say Childlike things is a stain on this gorgeously REALIZED album that enthralls you with a delightfully futuristic and unparalleled take on techno-pop music, that aims to deconstruct sexual liberation in a radically subdued way.
I hold the belief that this is the most profound and forward facing pop project to come out in a good amount of time.
less hooking and more restricting, flooded with apocalyptic tension that makes it feel larger than life. A confounding listen that leaves the listener with a sense of deflated importance.
a special sound with devastating weight that is eerily technological and collapses with a suffocating ruin.
every song rings with such admirably monolithic atmosphere, purely desolate in nature. not a moment of liberation is granted until after its distended run time.
perfect and one of a kind for sure.
a genuinely impressive mix of romantic anthems and lewd proclamations that I fail to find true flaws in.
while no where near as commanding and unforgettable as their previous projects it features their most hedonistic and voluptuously abundant tunes that have a much welcomed emphasis on orchestral string arrangements that make this album feel so breezy and totally unrestrained while it confessed its once again cleverly coded messages of affection.
remarkably simple/viscously horny combined with cryptic lyricism is sure to put any hipster at ease, or bring them to the climax.
the songwriting is just so catchy its a little disgusting, especially due to the bands innocuous presentation and stage presence.
I actually think this album might be my overall most replayed in full, it has a unstoppable flow that dips its toes equally into encrypted lust and unnervingly described sentiments. All with a one of a kind laid back style of post-punk ... read more
Has a distinctly updated energy and style I grew to fucking love... though it was deplorable upon first listen, I understand its appeal. With a preference for cleaner production and more melodic vocals and instrumental pursuits it pleasantly regresses anger and violence for self loathing and deprecation that it weaves nicely into its shared themes of occult worship and satanic panic.
I think it also uses its samples very well and spotlights them to create in order to create a totally ... read more
suppppper iffy. one moment it will be drugs in the form of music and the next its uninspired and frankly trite stoner/doom songs that feature truly unenjoyable vocals from Oborn that actually raise the question how he was able to sound how he did on later projects.
In general the albums songs exceed initial expectations when there is an absence of vocals and a emphasis on repetitive and hazy instrumentation. Such as on songs like Mountains of Mars and the bonus track Illimitable Nebulie
Iconic and angry to its core, the malice it embodies addictive.
This classic album has got some interesting sludge riffs that are unfortunately paced too briskly for a majority of the album. I'm a firm believer The Wizard is the closest to perfect when they are at their slowest and most brooding.
And without Mind Transferal this project is nearly void of a true nicely paced recording.
It offers up one in the form of I, The Witchfinder which is most likely the best song you get out of the ... read more
Spacey and dazed.
I actually used to like this record a lot more, but the last two bonus tracks as of recent have been really irking me due to their lack of similar production.
However when talking about the track listing that is on this website which I assume was the original official releases listing.
There is a only praise to deliver.
First off this album has such a distinct tone, muffled beyond compare so much so that the first note of Return Trip resembles and incredibly poor audio ... read more
Has the atmosphere of black smoke and lyrics to match.
My favorite of theirs because of the way it fully embraces the bands psychedelic style. dense with heavy riffs that are wonderfully layered and even heavier reverb and wah-wah effects on nearly every instrument and vocal recording.
it finds The Wizard with a voice noticeably more in the realm of experimentation, and a sound closer in proximity to the dark arts then past and future projects. Leaning mostly into drone and stoner metals ... read more
Still the best album ever made.
Incredibly unprocessed in production (largely live recordings with little alterations made) and practical in songwriting. its perfectly moody with a undertone of sophistication and elegance that is curated by an ideal contrast of crisp and spotless instrument tones in hand with its opposition of heavily distorted and earthshattering sections that just command your undivided attention.
this duality showcases a sound that I feel most closely resembles a thin ray ... read more
Moody, sounds like undertow...
when listening, there is little to dislike or anything that sounds excessively vapid but also virtually nothing leaving you truly wanting more besides a few slightly interesting woodwind phrases that actually do a swell job and manufacturing this fungal soundscape that she is forming.
However I think here, the soundscape is offering very little to chew on or be enthralled by. It's simply a distinct sound that is expected on a new Bjork project.
All this to ... read more
I think this album mostly suffers from a lack of danceable songs which is fairly unlike Bjork.
However when it comes to musical compositions this album actually has some truly groundbreaking and gorgeous moments that are incredibly dense thanks to Arcas assistance with production.
I actually think this album truly shines in the way it hoists this intense contrast that Arcas fairly simple but intensely eerie beats make in unison with Bjorks lightened vocals and of course the flutes that make ... read more
This one always surprises me when I return to it. I really love Bjork and so when I think about my favorite works of hers and I recall how much I LOVED this record upon first listen I have a strange disbelief to the notion because of its overbearing exposed, longing, shameful energy that it just pours out.
But after listening countless times I'm convinced this album is virtually perfect only sacrificing overwhelming catchiness in exchange for filthy fucking fresh production from both Arca ... read more
Once again this project is utterly unique and has two very distinct sounds it offers. its desolate, creeping and slow moving ambient tracks that have a very hazy use of instrumentals which I feel works enormously well. and more crisp, staccato tracks that make up most of the end of this record, that I still have a hard time appreciating. In general though this albums strange and totally off the page approach to song writing is commendable at worst and exceptionally innovative at best. Knowing ... read more
