All over the place... Which makes it actually a really decent album to return to singular tracks for. But when it comes to listening in full the utter lack of continuity in instrumental ensemble from track to track takes a toll on enjoyment as its almost entirely impossible to compare the horn filled Pneumonia to the eastern influenced glitch ambience track I See Who You Are and even more implausible to say that both are on the same record as the very LOUD and fuzzy Declare Independence, which ... read more
This album is surprisingly catchy as fuck at times, and entirely distinctive within the grounds of modern music, with a title that perfectly encapsulates the records strangely dark sound and themes that largely focus on human condition and organs, specifically (obviously) the mouth/voice. Overall its unlike anything she or anyone has made and lands with evident musical mastery on the fully formed tracks.
largely self written and produced Bjorks fourth project remains pop music's most first-rate adventure. and sensuality gets otherworldly is the main gist of it.
similarly to Homogenic when it comes to vocals this album is going to be hard to top FOR YEARS in terms of musical compositions...
tracks like Hidden Place, Frosti, Pagan Poetry, Sun in my Mouth, Undo and my personal favorite, An Echo A Stain feature passages that are just on another level more comparable to classical music than ... read more
quintessential pop is the best way to describe this record. sounds and ideas for genres not fully realized until the late 2010's were birthed on this album; its influence on electronic music as a whole is undeniable.
What else is there to say other than the song writing and lyricism on every song is unmatched, the beats and use of strings on them are legendary and Bjorks voice is so impressive and strong here I have a hard time thinking of another pop acts that can compete with this vocal ... read more
genuinely some of her most light hearted and juvenile stuff. And not in any way that's flawed or lacks emotional maturity. I think the record just has this very back and forth emotion of cathartic, innocence and anger and acute love and curiosity that makes it seem so childlike and playful.
But anyway the track listing is UTTERLY unique, and its honestly incredible how different each song is after another, but very similar to another track placed further away on the album, yet never ... read more
Super impressive vocals. Least cohesive instrumental work going on here but some of her catchiest songs come from this classic pop record that blends vintage and conservative beauty with eccentric and innovative song writing in a successful way!
Come To Me is going to blow up soon for sure on Tik Tok or something, its an awesome song.
Excellent. I think this is probably the most diverse their music gets and its exceptionally fun. It blends this very smooth and borderline gorgeous use of horns and various other classical instruments, with a super noise rock influenced base on every song that creates a very circus/freakshow like sound that I find endlessly impressive.
I think this actually might be their most successful record sometimes. When listening all the way through its hard not to hear that even compared to their ... read more
Very overrated in my opinion. There are songs on this record I still cannot get behind at all. But overall good.
Still my least favorite album of theirs but holds one of my most adored songs by them 80808.
I think there's something just slightly too muddy about the overall mix of this one that leads me to check it out the least when I wanna listen to them.
some of their most catchy songs reside on this record... Has some overwhelmingly fun tracks... but when it comes to the overall track listing i'm always more inclined for their other projects.
There are a few songs on here that lack the same intense catchiness found on other parts of the record.
But this album has MC Rides best lyricism hand down. And the use of his screams on Klink are simply genius... great stuff.
Easily their most deconstructed and intense. Has some the bands most straight forward material in terms of structure, but manages to hold some of their most unique and off the page sounds.
The opener and closer to this album are for sure two of their best songs no doubt.
I will actually say here that Whatever I Want (fuck whos watching) is their best song and any argument is folly.
This album and Government Plates are just not being heard correctly, this is easily their best project and has some of their HARDEST tracks... Lock Your Doors, Black Dice, Pop, Whammy, No Love, Lil Boy, Deep Web and the closer are all incredible.
I think in general it has a much less glitchy and web inspired instrumentals compared to their first two records. But in general the beats on this album are endlessly catchy and have such a unique sound that blends spacey borderline Super Mario ... read more
