Definitely an outlier score here, I think there album is really good and has all the things a good album should. It just simply isn't my vibe. Some songs feel a little empty(?) but again I think that might just be a personal taste.
82 on a first listen is probably pretty different to my opinions now. I think the production is phenomenal and the Danny Brown feature has grown on me, solid solid project and can see the score being bumped when I get round to a relisten
100% stronger first half here. Just felt really fatigued by the end. ISSBROKIE verse was a highlight.
Jane Remover? More like Jane removed my ear drums and replaced them with happiness.
Very clearly not an album for me, so a lot of what made this album work was lost on me unfortunately. I just struggled to stay interested in this in anyway whatsoever. It's a shame as this project never done anything wrong, nice vocals nice instruments. Just no catch for me unfortunately.
Might be the true definition of art. The politics, morals, messages. All tied together in such a way that it almost disguises itself, yet is still unapologetically bold.
The entire album culminating in the interview at the end is such a unique and powerful way to finish this project.
Insanely massive album. Everything about it works so well. The story telling, especially in SAMIDOT and The Art of Peer Pressure, is phenomenal. Kendrick flows so hard here with as much passion as you'd expect.
I personally wasn't a huge fan of the first 3 tracks on this project but that's down to personal gripes I have with them rather than anything fundamentally out of place with them.
The fact this was made when Kendrick was 23 is ridiculous. Although not every song is a hit, the songs that do hit completely make up for it. The entire album all following a narrative helps sell this to me as well quite a bit.
About to go through all the albums so this score may need/get a revisit but for now I'm happy with an 81.
A very solid album. Huge shout out to the bassist. The guitar at the end of Sister was incredible. Definitely an album that I felt has a far more solid second half than the first but was solid the whole way through. The only negative I'd say was the choice to put Pops as the closer. Maybe I'm missing something but I personally thought Woman was a far better song and fit the theme more for a closer.
Really solid project. The writing is absolutely phenomenal, the vocals are so powerful and the whole flow of the album is really well done. Really solid.
I'm not a rock fan so what I say should be taken with a pinch of salt. But this album is the sonic representation of mixing all the colours together and getting brown.
Truly a copy/paste rock album that does nothing interesting and only served to be forgotten as soon as it end.
Strong lyrics, strong message, banger album art, skits are excluded from this rating. Thought it was really good. Might check out the rest of the discography
I'm not a J-Rock fan, nor am I a metal fan. So my opinion means nothing here. But yeah, it was eh. Wouldn't rush to re-listen to this, but if it's your jam, then fair.
A strong and meaningful album, the title track is just such a powerful coming together of the messages throughout the album and Leah's vocals are insanely good.
Wow, the instrumentals pair so nicely with the vocals, an old album being released 8 years ago but still stands as a really strong project.
The album knows exactly what it wants to be and how to get there, no song feels out of place, they all connect and bounce off each other amazingly.
This was certainly an album. That's the best analysis I can give unfortunately. It was a very extreme project, which opens up this kind of marmite relationship. You either love how twisted and twitchy it feels, or you don't. I just couldn't understand it.
Maybe I'm not the target audience. Or maybe I'm just media illiterate. Wasn't a bad album, I wouldn't say it was a particularly great one either.
Beats were funky though can't lie
Sometimes you gotta just stand back and appreciate the vibe. The blend of bedroom pop and the almost soft/indie rock pairs beautifully with Clairo's voice on this record. The writing may not be super deep but it didn't need to be. With an album about being vulnerable and opening up for once, the song writing was right where it needed to be.
