Sinéad O'Connor - The Lion and the Cobra
97

"The Lion and the Cobra" is an absolutely incredible album packed full of raw emotion and energy. Fundamentally, this is what music is supposed to be like.

The album opens with “Jackie,” a hauntingly intense song that immediately grabs the listeners attention, showcasing O'Connor’s dynamic vocal range as she begins with a soft, almost ethereal tone that still manages to give off a feeling of angst and bottled up rage.

That feeling of trapped emotions leads ... read more

Charli xcx - Brat and it's completely different but also still brat
80

Charli XCX returns with a surprisingly fresh take on the cultural phenomenon known as "brat."

I personally wasn't a very big fan of the original album on release; it has grown on me some as months have passed since its release, but I'm still not the biggest fan. Going into this album, I had very low expectations, and initially I just listened for the Caroline Polachek remix, but as I kept listening, I realized I actually strongly preferred the remix album to the original. ... read more

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D
88

At long last, Porter Robinson has delivered his 3rd studio album, and although not as emotionally powerful as his other 2 releases, SMILE:D is ultimately a very well done and beautiful project, I've mentioned this before, but I love how "visual" Porter makes his albums, what I mean is, when listening, each individual song creates a very vivid image in your head, you can picture the cozy nostalgia that "Is There Really No Happiness" creates, you can feel the lonesome yet ... read more

Porter Robinson - Nurture
99

Where do I even start,

Nurture feels like a comforting hug from an unseen friend that you can't physically feel, but you know can guide you through the highs and lows of the complicated existence we all live. It radiates the pure positive energy of pop, but creates a way more personal experience with it's elegantly and thoughtfully crafted lyrics. If I had to describe the difference I feel with Nurture versus a traditional pop album, it feels like a "It's ok, everything's going to be ... read more

Charli xcx - BRAT
50

BRAT is certainly an interesting album, high highs and very low lows, having listened to this and Porter Robinson's Nurture back to back led to some insight that I think I wouldn't have had otherwise. The album gets off to a rough start with half assed early 2000s esque party song 360, but picks up steam with the Jersey Club paced Club Classics, the lyrics are definitely cliché stereotypical "dance dance, party all night long, blah blah blah" type shit you would hear in every ... read more

Porter Robinson - Worlds
99

Porter Robinson's Worlds is nothing short of a masterpiece, his magnum opus that represents more than music and becomes a profound journey through emotion and electronic music, every track on this album feels like a different distant memory of a specific emotion that you can't quite pinpoint, it perfectly captures the essence of joy, sadness, and everything in between.

No other album has the ability to resonate with me with such depth, to represent the complexity of human emotion with such ... read more

Virtual Self - Virtual Self
90

Absolutely incredible, Porter's love letter to trance, crafted to perfection. I pray he returns to the Virtual Self alias sometime, because this was top tier electronic production.

Jane Remover - Census Designated
82

Very solid album, the pure noise and randomness it has sometimes, blends perfectly with the beautiful vocals and intentional guitar riffs. The only thing holding this album back for me is length, felt a bit too long, but like I said, very solid album. Thoroughly enjoyed!

Quadeca - SCRAPYARD
20

Maybe I'm not seeing the vision, but Quadeca's vocal and lyrical performance on this entire album is lacking. Some highlights and good production are overall overshadowed by the low quality vocals throughout. Maybe it'll grow on me, but for now I didn't enjoy this very much at all.

Edit: Listened again, and it was worse, really don't see the appeal of this whiny sad white boy kinda music. Not on one song was I impressed by Quadeca's vocal contributions, nor was I really getting the point of ... read more
