SILICA GEL - POWER ANDRE 99
100

This is one of the most innovative and unique rock albums I have listened to in a while. I don't think I could really write a review that could do justice to how absolutely mind-blowingly amazing this was. All I can say, though, is that the fact that some people have rated this a 60 is truly insane; it seems like the wrong audience has found this one lol. I thought that Parannoul's 'After The Magic' would be my AOTY, but it seems like it's been dethroned.

RAYE - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.

This really is some millennial GCSE drama play-type music. Annoying vocal inflections and overused spoken word cringe; on RAYE’s sophomore album, instead of any real interesting musical ideas, or at least some decent songwriting, these are instead replaced by overproduction and grandiose string arrangements. Honestly, the whole time I was listening to this, it just felt like every moment was insisting upon itself in the most try-hard, faux-deep, “this is so relatable” way ... read more

RAYE - WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!
21

I'll start off with the positives. I think RAYE is a talented vocalist… that's about it. Honestly, this song is absolutely awful on really all fronts. The mixing is incredibly flat and makes the moments where the song is supposed to sound big and impressive, like the chorus, sound really underwhelming and kind of embarrassing, to be honest. Tons of weird production choices, especially near the end, that make the song sound really jumbled, and oh my god, the songwriting – ... read more

Loathe - Gifted Every Strength
74

God, please forgive me for giving Booner a better score. I don't know, man. I think this is a good song, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's song of the year, even though I can see why people would really enjoy this. It's got a good balance of crushing guitars and drums so heavy it feels like you're inside of the bass drum and melodic melodies with a pretty nice guitar solo near the end. But I can't help but feel like it just sounds like a better composed and ... read more

Benson Boone - Mystical Magical
93

As someone who spends his time clowning on the Imagine Dragons and Sabrina Carpenter's of the music world and ESPECIALLY Benson fucking Boone, I've sadly fallen victim to the coworker music virus😭. This song isn't particularly unique in any way; the songwriting is pretty lowbrow, and it sounds like it was produced by Charlie Puth (except if it was actually kind of good), but I don't know, man; the melody is actually really fun, and I love how full and colourful the chorus ... read more

유재하 [Yoo Jae-ha] - 사랑하기 때문에 [Because I Love You]
95

This album, to me, is the perfect example of a "genre album." It fully embraces 80s Pop and Soft Rock without trying to go beyond that. Sure, it's cheesy and a little generic at times, but it captures everything that made this era of Pop music amazing. From the flawless compositions to the extremely corny yet sweet lyricism to the soulful vocal performances, nearly every track presented here is executed to perfection and it's truly tragic that his life was cut so short and ... read more
