Listening to this album again was fun because of all the memories associated with some of these songs. The production is still top notch and Amines flow still gets me hyped. The back half was a bit weaker than I remembered but the bangers still shine bright. Yellow and Caroline were my top 2 on this listen. If STFU was removed from the album I could get up to a 7.8 - do not like that song
Have not listened to a full Charli Xcx album before but can confidently say Brat made me a fan. There is a hypnotic energy on this album that is infectious. I feel like it is perfectly balanced between a club and pop album so it makes for a really fun listen. 360 was my favorite - love some grimy synths.
White boy summer. Crispy bass licks and incomprehensible vocals is a lost art. Listening to this album made me reminiscent of how hard this must have gone in 1999. I do feel that the more popular songs carry the album somewhat as the back half began to sound repetitive. Despite this, it is clear why it is such an iconic sound. I enjoyed my listen and would like to explore some of their other works.
Simple songwriting is what makes this album so powerful. Neil has the vocal ability to convey a lot of emotion that adds color and depth to his music. His expressive guitar style ties it all together to produce an iconic album with a lot of replay value.
While I enjoyed the heavy instrumentals, this album was not easily digestible for me (despite its 30 minute run time). Probably the biggest discrepancy between enjoyment and utter disgust I have had for an album in a while - so that should count for something. At the very least, it highlights their range as a band. “Nothing like” was my favorite song.
