life changing.
sometimes when i’m listening to music, i wonder if i’m being too harsh. i find myself holding albums to this impossible standard where i’m looking for a perfect concept or a flawless execution, and eventually i start questioning whether that kind of album can even exist.
then i heard this.
dummy is one of the rare albums that reminds me perfection is actually possible.
everything here feels effortless. the production is smooth, dark, jazzy, and endlessly ... read more
i haven’t really been listening to much rap lately.
a lot of modern rap feels like it’s chasing a viral moment instead of trying to say something interesting. so much of it sounds like computer slop designed in a laboratory to survive exactly two weeks on tiktok before everyone forgets it exists.
this was my first full vince staples album, and i’ve got to admit i was impressed.
the thing that stood out to me most was the production. almost every instrument on here sounds ... read more
this is what anxiety sounds like.
the best way i can describe this album is a broadway performance where every actor is schizophrenic and nobody was given the same script.
the musicianship is undeniably impressive. the sound is so dense that it feels like there are a hundred instruments playing at the same time. there is constantly something happening, whether you want there to be or not.

the problem is that i think he’s improved so much since then that a lot of this album ... read more
this album makes me want to sit on my front porch in a rocking chair with a beer and a cigarette while i actively neglect every important responsibility in my life, like a real man.
in all seriousness, this is one of the best grunge albums ever made. everything about it feels raw, angry, miserable, and completely authentic. there’s no pretending here. every song sounds like it came from people who were actually living the emotions they were writing about.
layne staley is one of my ... read more
this is one of those albums where i can clearly tell it’s good, even if it isn’t really for me.
the easiest way i can describe it is horror rap. it reminds me a little of clipping., but toned down enough that it still feels like a cohesive rap album instead of a full blown horror experience.
billy woods is a great rapper. the bars are sharp, thoughtful, and packed with commentary about society, politics, and inequality. there’s clearly a lot of effort and intention behind ... read more
