i was in a call and a friend showed me this song, and there’s no fucking way this is a real thing. when they told me about it, i was expecting it to have a hidden feature and bruno mars just singing, BUT IT’S HIM RAPPING IN PORTUGUESE, AND THE LYRICS ARE ABSOLUTE DOGSHIT.
yesterday i went to a movie theater to watch the new jurassic world movie, and this song was blaring in the lobby afterward. at first i legitimately thought i was hearing someone dying, but it just turned out to be benson boone’s garbage breakout single, and that’s all i have to say about it.
on it’s own i think this song is decent, but my god does it serve as a wonderful intro for and in the context of this record.
i love this song, but OH MY GOD i just can’t with this cover art. it looks so fucking tacky, especially with the color contrast, and it doesn’t make any sense considering the song’s context. and what do you mean fortnite and bruno mars decided they’d go with THIS look for his festival season skin??? great song, awful cover art.
i love this production, and the vocals are infectiously goofy in a way i just can’t put into words. RIP SOPHIE.
the only reason i’m not giving this a zero is because of how hilariously bad it is. as a diss track it’s boring, and as an actual song it’s so unintentionally goofy.
“Mama said, “fulfill the prophecy, be something greater, go make a legacy,” manifest destiny, back in the days we wanted everything, wanted everything,” these are unbelievably garbage lyrics holy shit. i can’t believe this song isn’t a parody of big, faux-inspirational songs.
the songs with dylan brady go so goddamn hard
don’t ask me why i decided to listen to this, because i have no idea. i was bored and curious, and here are some of my thoughts.
in all honesty, i don’t think this is the absolute worst thing in the entire world like the user score implies, but it’s also not exactly good. i think the production could sound A LOT better if the mixing wasn’t complete garbage, but i’m pretty sure an addition of clarity would expose many more problems that this thing has. it might be ... read more
it’s a cute and endearing song, and north west’s feature heavily contributes to that quality.
this rating is for BOYFRIEND, which i wish was on streaming services so goddamn much. it’s such a great song that beautifully sums up the themes of love and desire on the album, but i can understand why this was left out. it really makes the point of the record clear, and it would be like a spoiler.
i love the way this song combats the idea of people in the lgbtq+ community not being accepted by a higher power, and it also sounds so ethereal and otherworldly beautiful. although i’m fairly new to electra’s music, their vocals are something that are really clicking with me.
the album version feels much more realized and in tune with what jane was going for on census designated, but this version’s also great.
if i ever become a mechanic, i’ll make sure to play this ep at least once a day
