ok, i didn’t like this, but i don’t think it’s doechii’s fault. going into this remix i was already thinking how she wouldn’t fit the vibe of this song, and i was right. i actually think her performance is pretty good, but having her on this song is like fitting a square peg in a round hole.
ok, i don’t think this is the worst thing in the world, but at the same time i don’t think it’s anything special. the instrumental is good, but that’s a given considering the gotye sample. i think some people are just overreacting and acting like this is really REALLY bad, but at the same time i can sympathize with that, even if that’s not how i feel.
i think the synthesized sound effects in the instrumental are cool, but the rest of the song feels painfully generic and REALLY doesn’t sound like something SOPHIE would’ve released if she finished this record. it also doesn’t help that bibi bourelly’s singing on this song is awful and her lyrics are insultingly generic. RIP SOPHIE, but something like this shouldn’t be attached to her name.
30th review! :3
i listened to this record while coming back from a roadtrip, and OH MY GOD. THIS GOES SO GODDAMN HARD.
to start off, saying this album could kill a victorian child is a HUGE understatement. this album would open a portal to the victorian era, summon a meteor-sized warhead hard candy, and that warhead candy would crash into the biggest playground during the afternoon at the speed of light.
to me, this album is the logical conclusion to everything that hyperpop has built up to, ... read more
my general thoughts on this deluxe edition are the same as my thoughts on the original record.

putting the incredibly brazen unoriginality aside, which is very difficult for me to do, i do think tory lanez came through with a pretty decent-sounding contribution to the trend of 80s revivalism during 2020-2021, and i also think that’s the case with the deluxe edition. however, it’s way too often that lanez and these 2 versions of the album sound like a ripoff of artists like the weeknd, and this breaks any and all illusions of originality with the music here. it really ... read more

i decided to give this album another relisten, and OH. MY. GOD.
this is a TRULY horrible record, and it might be the worst album of the year for me. i really hate to say that, because aihvhia clearly put so much time and effort into everything here, but ABSOLUTELY NOTHING of this works. i’ve never given an album a 0/10 before, and i hate that this is the first one to get it.

i gotta give credit where it’s due, i do think nav is making some pretty good production choices on this record, and his vocal performances on some tracks are considerably better than they have been in the past. with that said, his writing is still pretty mid, and i don’t really see that changing in the future. this could’ve been a lot worse though, and i’m glad it wasn’t.
my enjoyment of this mixtape might just be because of how much i’ve listened to bladee, especially considering he was my no. 1 artist last year. regardless of that, this isn’t the deepest or most substantive thing ever, but the vibes are immaculate. bladee came through with terminally online trap music, and it mostly panned out.
the mixing on “cartier’god icedancer” is awful and that song is borderline unlistenable.
despite how devistating and incredibly desolate this album is because of the context surrounding it, i’m just so infatuated with everything about it. the production truly sounds like it could’ve only come from a postapocalyptic world where its artists are able to use instruments to perfectly encapsulate grief, hopelessness, anxiety, paranoia, depression, and hope. the rapping and singing is also so equally depressing, anxious and borderline schizo, and that heavily contributes to ... read more
after going through the mediocrity that was carti’s latest album, i decided to go back to this record to remind myself that he actually has good music, and i thought i might as well review this while i’m at it.
this album is a great example of how to be simplistic while still being engaging, and that’s a skill that very few rappers at the time had. one of the prime examples of this, for me anyway, is the song “lean 4 real”, as carti’s flows are so simple yet ... read more
how did this come from the same guy who dropped die lit??????
it took almost 5 years for this new record to come out, but there’s almost nothing in the music to show for it. this entire thing sounds like a sloppy demo that was made in 1-2 weeks, and that’s being generous considering some of the awful mixing, especially on songs such as “trim” and “opm babi”. this album is at its best when there’s a mediocre feature that easily outshines carti because ... read more
weirdly enough, 100 gecs, and specifically what they do on this record, make me hate the myspace era of music so much more than i already do. my reason for feeling this way is because they show that all the aspects that made some of that music unlistenable could’ve actually been used to make some great and fun stuff, but was instead used to construct auditory atrocities such as crunkcore.
with that said, this is a very fun album that radiates silliness, but also has the right amount of ... read more
this is easily one of the best mixtapes to come out in the 2010s, and it’s insane to think that this was the direct follow-up to their very first release as a band. zach hill and flatlander’s production combined with ride’s writing and performances are absolutely insane and greatly contribute to this mixtape’s raw and deranged energy. it also has great one-liners; “to pray is to accept defeat” is one of my favorite death grips lyrics, as well as the classic ... read more
this album manages to say so much despite there being no voice, aside from sampled passages that can be so simple yet simultaneously so powerful, such as the preacher’s speech in “Static.” i wouldn’t say that very lengthy songs have been my thing in the past, but albums like this and CALIGULA have been really changing that. this record being my introduction to post-rock, and given how well it executes that approach to rock music, makes me really excited to dive into the ... read more
