This album is “bitchin’”
I’m such a sucker for bass clarinet. Even though I’m not the biggest fan of the funkier tracks, the atmospheric tunes on the B side with heavy percussion and minor modes are so so good.
Cancelation is phenomenal plus very early Tolliver and Hancock not to mention Cecil McBee and Roy Haynes playing in a whole nother sonic dimension.
So meandering and unfocused. Feels amateurish even thought I know he’s great at his craft.
Sonny Sherrock is a fucking legend. His guitar tone on the final track, to say nothing of the rest of the incredible lineup here, is simply transcendent.
“Coltrane” is by far the highlight on the album (9/10) easily!
Spike Lee’s dad on bass!!
Played this in the record shop and multiple customers drummed along on anything with resonance
