Wanted to like it more but some songs on here are just nothing burgers. Some great songs tho.
The undeniable classic featuring one of the greatest opening three track runs of all time. Just extremely atmospheric, expansive, and emotionally potent.
I remember watching and listening to the YouTube premiere of this album, I can’t believe that was six years ago man wtf!!!! Seriously though, to make a 45 minute song this captivating throughout the entire runtime is a remarkable accomplishment. Still holds up all these years later.
It’s an interesting album, but that’s partly because of the record that came after. It’s always cool to hear some of Phil’s earlier work. There’s a lot of nice ideas here and Mirah’s vocals are great with Phil’s. But I wish these cool ideas were explored much further and fuller than they are. Luckily tho, Glow Pt. 2 exists.
after a year of feeling very let down by all my favorite bands (Car Seat Headrest, Arcade Fire, and The Strokes with that new god forsaken song), Broken Social Scene, My all time favorite band have released a new album and I’m actually not disappointed. Thank Fuck.
Now as I said before, this is my favorite band. They are everything that music is to me. They are a band that I feel has legitimately changed my outlook on life and made me want to be a better person. Not even that their music ... read more
It’s a really cool song but the production could have been better.
Honestly I really like this song. I do have issues with it tho. There are just some easy fixes that could have made it much better, such as not having all the vocal harmonies being in the song straight from the beginning. It makes it sound like a children’s song when the melody really is not that bad. That being said tho I think it has a good structure and it’s a satisfying listen. I just think the loud and nearly annoying vocals in the verses may turn a lot of people off.
I want to give it an 80 but honestly i don’t enjoy it enough for that sadly. However there are some really cool songs here and some absolute classics like Genesis, Oblivion, and Symphonia IX. I really like the vibe of this album too and the overall sound is cool, but I really think that if Grimes took more time perfecting the songs here and fleshing them out it could of been a really insane album. There are too many songs that just seem unfinished or uninspired with lackluster synth work. ... read more
CLASSIC FOR A REASON. Still remember my older sister showing me this song for the first time and explaining what it was about. First time I discovered political music and it was so cool! Sad to see what M.I.A has become but this song will always be an anthem
First verse is great, the chorus is great (last one kinda loses me tho), but the instrumental passages are kinda lame and the second verse is cringe. Still a good song tho. It sounds very Taylor but ig a lot of pop music does now so whatevs. Also sounds really Chappell Roany at times which makes sense considering they have the same producer but I don’t think that should mean their songs should sound so similar, they should individually be involved in their songs enough for them not to ... read more
Laughed a few times at how bad this was. It’s the greatest nothing burger I’ve ever had. So ahh.
I absolutely love the vocals but the instrumental is dih cheese. Julian is still pushing music forward, but the rest of the band needs to either keep up, or get tf out.
Yeah, 4 years later and this album is still not very interesting. Big Star is great though.
Edit: Ok it grew on me a little bit.
“There are some mornings when the sky looks like a road.” The second cousin of Gavin Newsom really out here making me cry.
Genuinely confused as to why people are shitting on this. Yeah sure it’s not perfect, but the good songs on here are extremely good and the style is great. Very reminiscent of the early 2000s broken social scene/Clap Your Hands Say Yeah/Wolf Parade sound and I think more indie music should take from that era.
