In a music world where there only seems to be a constant desire for money and marketable music, especially among unfortunately deceased artists, Mac Miller and his wonderful team continue to maintain his high-quality output years after his death. I can't tell if this is an idea to smile or cry to, but all I know is that the music under Mac's name still remains taken care of. Of course the album is bittersweet, it was bound to be, but something about it catches itself in limbo between ... read more
Swimming, as for many other Mac fans, was my first introduction to his expansive discography. And just to get my only negative out of the way, as I dive deeper into his music, I do prefer his psychedelic albums slightly more. Despite that, this album is simply undeniable. It runs almost an hour, but not a second of the track list do I ever find myself bored or waiting for a "better" song to show up. Unfortunately, this coziness does somewhat take away from making if feel very groundbreaking, which actually left me hoping for more upfront, bombastic songs such as Me and Your Mama and Boogieman. Overall, it is absolutely a solid ... read more
Despite its 90 minute runtime, Faces remains extremely concise. This alongside the insane range of moods and ideas Mac explored lead to an experience that was jarring in the best way possible. Very consistent quality; I could honestly see an argument for every single song on the mixtape being its best. I must admit there is definitely a certain druggy atmosphere represented through the vocals and production that could be hard to get into, and after finding Faces through Mac's more recent ... read more
