Bob Dylan - Desire

bob dylan truly painted movie scenes with his storytelling, it makes desire such a interesting listen. this album is politically very important, but more importantly, it was in dazed and confused. but seriously, this album is soooo damn good, john prine’s still my songwriting goat, but bob dylan is really really close, albums like this really makes me doubt that opinion somtimes. the instrumentals are amazing too, the drums sound amazing, the harmonica is very iconic and so powerful, and ... read more

Converge - Hum of Hurt

i like this more than Love is Not Enough for sure. i think the riffs and vocals are much more on point here on this album. it seems more creative as well, it’s not just an average metalcore album like i felt the last was. the bass and drum work here is also extremely good. i'm very impressed with this album, i didn’t expect it to be significantly better than Love is Not Enough considering what i’ve heard about it.

Converge - Love Is Not Enough

i don’t really understand why this is so heavily praised. i don’t find anything about this special at all. maybe it’s because it’s bringing in a lot of people who are not familiar with the genre, but it’s really just an alright album. i think the drum work was great, but vocally it was alright and same with the guitar work. vocally, i see a lot of punk influence, same with the bass and drums, so that’s definitely something they kinda mixed into the metalcore ... read more

Kevin Carducci - Easy Does It

i feel like this guy decided to sing country music but he doesn’t really mean it. it’s hard to explain that feeling, but this doesn’t seem authentic. he went for a classic country sound but he did not accomplish it well. it sounds like a rip off midland. every lyric he says seems like a recycled lyric that every country singer has said before. that’s a little bit of an exaggeration, but i just feel like the songwriting is bland and there’s no stories to tell. i ... read more

Albert Hammond - The Free Electric Band

i’m convinced AllMusic doesn’t even listen to the albums they rate, this album is fantastic. albert’s great songwriting and catchy hooks puts together a really nice and upbeat rock album. the vocals are great and the emotion within them makes for a very solid vocal performance. the instrumental’s are really nice as well, they’re very fun. “Smokey Factory Blues” and “Who’s For Lunch Today” are both amazing and perfect songs, those are ... read more

The Tony Rice Unit - Manzanita

this IS bluegrass. the insturmentals themselves just tell stories this is an unbelievably great album. tony rice is most definitely one of the best acoustic guitar players ever, he made everything he did on the album sound effortless. his picking sounds so clean, it’s like he never messes up, every note is perfection. the vocals are great too. amazing storytelling/songwriting and every song is real catchy. very underrated album.

The Dillards - Back Porch Bluegrass
82

i really do not think there is not a more enjoyable and fun genre than bluegrass. the catchy hooks, the perfect vocals, the quick paced toe tapping insturmentals, and the unbelievable mandolin, guitar, banjo, fiddle players that literally came right out of some back porch in the middle of kentucky. and back porch bluegrass is all of that, this a classic.

Don Williams - Epilogue: The Cellar Tapes
70

wow, a willie record, whitley & skaggs, don williams, and soon to come david allan coe all in the first half of the year. countries still alive man. really cool getting to listen to lost recordings like these, last year we had waylon and that was amazing. i kinda feel like these songs aren’t anything too special, obviously they’re good songs cause it’s don williams though.

Colby Acuff - Handmade Horsepower
85

i had to take a quick pause after hearing colby talk about shaking his ass and starting an onlyfans for a minute, what the hell lmao? wouldn’t have expected him to say that in a million years. anyways, i’m very glad a more upbeat and less acoustic colby is back, this is the kinda shit i love out of him. a good handful of the tracks on this remind me alot of waylon, not vocally, but the instrumentals, hooks, and songwriting for sure. vocally, he’s on point as well, he’s ... read more

Brent Cobb - Live A Song, Write A Memory, Vol. 1

nothin special, but it’s a nice lil acoustic album with solid songwriting, and some nice, sometimes bluesy picking, and the usual great vocals from brent. i liked the stories he put in there too. excited for the new albums coming out of this series, I’m not usually a big fan of straight acoustic songs, but maybe he’ll switch it up.

Vince Staples - Cry Baby
78

i’ve got a couple problems with this album, one, i feel like almost every song but 2 or 3 sounded very very similar. i also felt that most of the hooks were pretty weak. but, vince did come with an outstanding rapping performance and a very interesting and new sound. “The Big Bad Wolf” was the biggest standout for me, that was a 10/10 song, the “Cops Shot the Kid” sample fit perfectly for the theme of the album and it’s just overall an amazing beat, i think ... read more

Nick Shoulders - Okay, Crawdad.

though i wouldn’t really call it country, this is one of this first albums that got me expanding my music taste so much into country so much and all that’s around it. this album is really as fun as it gets. it’s so unique with the very live feeling and the yodeling and whistling, the cool licks and solos. this is such a cool sound. the songwriting is great as well. every song is very catchy and extremely unique. some spots in the album are even a little funny and silly, some ... read more

this guys voice still amazes me after years of listening every time, crazy crazy vocal control. i just love how nicks music feels, its so fun.

Waylon Jennings - Honky Tonk Heroes
95

Honky Tonk Heroes just has to be one of the most essential outlaw country albums. this album is fantastic, great songwriting, waylon’s voice is a obvious plus, the instrumentals can be super chill but there’s some really fun ones in there as well. several very catchy songs, just a classic. i wish i could give this a perfect score, but the problem with country in the 60-70s was that everyone was putting out too much music and not working hard enough for perfection, they were thirsty ... read more

Metallica - Master of Puppets

the concept, the solos, the legendary riffs, the perfect arrangement of every single track. it’s out of this world, this album is so great. i feel like this album does get its flowers when it comes to songwriting, i think it’s one of the best things metallica does on this record. the tempo changes everywhere into guitar solos and whatnot make the album such an interesting listen, you won’t be bored. there’s literally nothing to critique even if i tried, master of puppets ... read more

Overkill - Feel the Fire

amazing riffs, amazing guitar solos, the drums, bass, vocals, they’re all on point, there’s not much to critique here besides that it does sound very similar to judas priest. that’s not a bad thing at all, but it’s just not unique whatsoever, but it’s not easy to be unique in thrash metal. this album was great though, a 60 critic score is a little crazy.

The Hiveminds - The Restless’ Park
55

the low quality mixing and not great vocals on this album make this album have a slightly psychedelic feel to it, but i would not say in a very good way. the vocals are pretty bad to be honest, the instrumental’s could be better but everything just seems so all over the place and unorganized. i will say, i do like the organ they have on every track, that’s a cool and somewhat unique thing they’ve got goin. but i’m not really a big fan of this here, it is a little cool, ... read more

Ill Conscious - The Premise

nice lil jazzy production with really impressive rapping performances from both lll Conscious and Finn. my only problems here is i’ve never been a fan of the hooks they do on almost every track and the beats are kinda just loops for the most part. don’t get me wrong they’re great beats but they could’ve been more interesting, it’s just not making the album somthing special or unique, but lyrically that’s where it’s really at on this album for me. i ... read more

The Flatliners - Cold World

i feel like as soon as this goes mainstream (if it does) i’m not gonna like it anymore. but the lead singer has a great performance throughout the album vocally. i just don’t really like this sound very much. it sounds like something i’d hear on the radio which i don’t really like. but i do think it was a very solid album. there’s just somthing there that stops me from ever wanting to enjoy this completely. probably because i’m not very much of a modern punk ... read more

Natural Child - Wooden

these dudes are bringing that crosby, stills, and nash sound back, this is awesome. very chill album, great vocals, really cool and chill insturmentals, alright songwriting, i mean this is a pretty solid album, it’s a sound i’m a big fan of for sure. i do feel like these songs feel kinda forgettable, i think they nailed a memorable sound, but the songs aren’t very catchy. Natural Child did a great job at doing that 70s rock vibe.
