Jane baby, I am so sorry this happened to you, whatever man did this isn't worth you 😤
In all seriousness though, holy SHIT this is a personal album. Shit hits like a fucking truck. It's a short and bittersweet story about falling head over heels for somebody who forces everything to be behind closed doors because they're more afraid of what their friends might say than they are in love with you.
The love and infatuation hits hard and fast throughout the first two tracks, ... read more
Perfect example of what happens when you emulate the sound and lyrical style of a genre without actually understanding what makes those words and sounds actually MEAN something. "Hyperpop is when you uhhhhhhh have techno-y instrumentation and melodyne the shit out of your voice while you sing about being sad and smoking weed, right?" Ugh.
Toasterqueen12's review sums it up perfectly, this really is an "Elvis-ing" of hyperpop. Absolute garbage, I fuckin hate this song ... read more
I hate to admit it but the "early 2000s lost media mystery band cd from 4chan with the anime girl on it" album is actually fuckin great and I really should've given it a chance sooner.
Also Stabilisers hits different with that disc rot, hot DAMN
I genuinely don't think I've ever found a songwriter capable of weaving together words with a level of mastery anywhere near Frances Quinlan's. Every song in Get Disowned relays evocative, devastating memories that stick in your brain for the rest of your life. The lyrics are heart-rending and vivid, conveying not only the material and emotional realities of the experiences themselves but the life lessons Quinlan took away from them, be they helpful or maladaptive. These are the ... read more
The most perfectly executed mashup I've ever heard. When people call something a "love letter to a genre/era," this is what they're talking about.
Absolutely stellar. Watching this debut at Camp Boneyard 3 was fucking mindblowing
Had this album on repeat for almost 2 decades now. It's absolutely stellar. The lyrics are fantastic and poignant, the instrumentation weaves together beautifully, and the production is honestly the best I've ever heard when it comes to capturing that raw, fuzzy feeling of a live performance while still having the polish of a studio recording. Cannot recommend this enough.
I do it for my daddy and I do it for Dale! I'm doing what I want, and damn I'm doing it well for me, for ME! For me. For me.
Dear fucking god, if I've ever heard a song that so perfectly distills the feeling of growing up as a trans woman in a hyper-religious southern community, I certainly can't recall it. What a fucking masterpiece of a song, with an absolutely killer video to go with it. Holy hell, man.
One of those releases where I vastly prefer live performances to the studio version. Every live session and concert recording I've seen of songs from this EP are absolutely fantastic, but streaming the official release feels a little lackluster. Phoebe's raw, screaming vocals are a bit lost in the mix; Julien's guitar just sounds like a normal instrumental track in comparison to her making it absolutely sob live; and Lucy's voice doesn't have as much of the soft power ... read more
Beautiful. Absolutely fucking beautiful. One of those songs where you lean back, crank your volume through the roof, and feel yourself ascending into the clouds as the sound washes over you like waves crashing into the sand. Gorgeous lyrics, breathtaking harmonies, marvelous production, and overall just a genuinely stunning piece of music. Heavy production and compression done right.
I've had Cerulean Salt in a near-constant rotation for the past 12 years, and I doubt that's going to change any time soon. This album is beautifully, hauntingly devastating. Katie Crutchfield is one of the best lyricists I've ever heard, and, to me, this is her best work in that regard. A perfect encapsulation of what it's like to destroy yourself throughout your early twenties with addiction and self-destructive "love," every single song has at least one line ... read more
A bassline that sounds like a dentist's drill and a chorus that sounds like I'm having a panic attack during a gamelan klenengan. It's catchy, but my god.
