I really enjoyed this album start to finish. The writing is quite dry and sarcastic but has some moments of poetic lyricism throughout. The instrumentation throughout is diverse and well done. This particularly shines on the last track Bark At The Moon which for a 10 minute track only 4 short verses. A few cowbells, some introspection, self-destructive tendencies throughout, and some surprisingly well written lines. This most likely wont have some long lasting spiritual impact, but I enjoyed ... read more
I enjoyed this album, but I'd be lying if I said this matched something like Stratosphere. There is a few strong tracks that I played on repeat during mundane car rides or before bed. Quiet Eyes and Baking Tapes are standouts tracks to me and are ironically polar opposites sonically. Quiet Eyes is slow and melodic versus the brash sound of Baking Tapes. Overall, there isn't a song on this album I disliked, but only a few that really stuck out to me from the rest. A perfect album to ... read more
I would like to thank Tell Tales The Walking Dead for introducing me to this album. Salty Sea was an incredible choice for the end credit music after such a gutting experience. Upon listening to the rest of the album I was in love. The instrumentation is atmospheric and at times dreamy. This is further reinforced by the strong writing and vocal performances on the record. Just One Breath is a real highlight for me. Stunning instrumentals, sharp writing, and a beautiful duet that displays the ... read more
Start to finish, Jaw on the floor. This album is incredibly powerful and honestly challenging to listen to at times. The guitars on Babys in a Thunder Cloud sounding like the streaking of missiles is an insane touch of artistry. The monologue on Raindrops cast in lead is heartbreaking and puts the unspoken theme of the album in words. Overall, the album is dire, depressing, but in moments hopeful. Incredible album artistically and thematically.
It feels weird to say this may be my favorite Strokes album of all time. Did this album find me at the right time or is it because I got to listen on drop day unlike their other albums. Either way, The New Abnormal is start to finish endearing and emotional. The Adults are Talking might be my favorite Strokes track of all time. Julian Casablancas' performance on tracks like Selfless and At the Door is incredible. Not enough can be said about Ode to the Mets as a closer to the album. This ... read more
