Angine de Poitrine - Vol.II

Bizarre but really really groovy and refreshing. I'm usually lightyears away from liking albums like these, but this somehow manages to be incredibly technical but also easy to just sink myself in. "Fabienk" is my favourite track, the different layers of catchy guitar melodies stacking on top of each other omgg such a wild experience. "Yor Zarad" too the way the start shredding it at the end oomph so so good.

BANGERRRR THIS IS WHAT FUCK MY COMPUTER SHOULD HAVE FELT LIKE WOOOOO

Banger after banger after banger, really clean crisp production and most of the songs are unbelievably bouncy and amazing to move to. Keeps the energy ups and doesn't fade one bit. Just unbelievably consistent which sets it apart from so so so many other albums in this general vibe.

Came for Midnight City, stayed for the album....

Finally got around to listening to this in full, I was always intimidated by its length and the sheer number of tracks. So I decided to let it run and I'm happy to say that it definitely carries its weight beyond Midnight City, which is one of my absolute favourite tracks of all the time.

What M83 does well here is how they are so good and creating simple yet larger than life synthpop Midnight City is an absolute testament to that but ... read more

Wolf Alice - The Clearing

Wait why is this not a must hear??....oh

Wolf alice is not a name I had heard of until stumbling upon their single "The Sofa", which caught my attention because of it's lush and detailed production combined with the lead singer's great voice. It's such a vibe honestly and honestly a bit disappointed there isn't any tracks elsewhere on the album that really comes close to it. But, what is on the album are some surprisingly catchy soft-rock songs like "Bloom ... read more

A certified night time album

My first touchpoint with this album was from a mobile game called beatstar lol The song "The Mother We Share" was in the game and it slowly became a song I would listen to quite frequently outside of the game. For a long while that was my only engagement with Chvrches until I listened to Every Open Eye and really loved it. So now I have finally come around to reviewing their debut too.

This album I feel really illustrates the core appeal of Chvrches to ... read more

BC,NR??? Ants From Up There???

This is a band I've never heard of before, with really high user ratings (as of writing) and many comparing it to BCNR and likening it to Ants From Up There. Well, I can definitely see the similarities - a ton of jazz and post-rock influences with longer songs with more interesting structures. But yet they bring their own unique touches like the very midwest emo production at times. It has a very soft, intimate feel but at other times is explosive (kinda ... read more

An OG...

This is one of the first few albums that I listened in full to, and one that has stuck around in the back of my mind since I heard it for the first time. After listening to so much more indie rock and similar acts, this still stands out to me.

I really love how this album sounds. I can't really put my finger on what exactly, but the alt country and Midwest emo influences come together really nicely. It feels so cozy, intimate and introspective.

Above all, the thing that ties ... read more

Quite a chore to listen to sorry this isn't for me. When I heard the intro track I was quite excited but the rest of the album ended up taking a very different and frankly disappointing direction. I was expecting more world building and larger soundscapes but as the album progressed everything sounded more and more claustrophobic and dull.

It's ironic that an album which bounces around so many sounds and ideas can feel so monotonous as a whole but that's how I would describe it ... read more

Porter Robinson - Worlds

I SAW THIS PLAYED LIVE :)) Loved it live but the studio version is a little different to me...

Worlds is a mixed bag. The highs are goods but the middle portion is really eh... Considering its an EDM based album made in the early 2010s, some parts have aged much better than others.

But as a whole, I think the overall sound that Porter has created is quite experimental and boundary-pushing. There's clearly a lot of infusion of other non-conventional influences with EDM and even when it ... read more

BCNR is back...

Just like many others, I am a huge BCNR fan. I find both their debut and their sophomore to be some of the best rock albums of the past decade and honestly, they have grown to become one of my favourite rock acts of all times because of that. For me what made both albums soar as high as it did (especially Ants from Up There) is the impact and emotional lethality of their songs combined with masterful compositions. They make music that just cuts through your heart completely and ... read more

Rebecca Black - SALVATION

It's fine... The production is punchy and varied, and there are many moments where I find myself enjoying and bopping to the beats. But what this lacks are proper proper hooks...Nothing about the lyrics stand out to me in the slightest so I'm never have that feeling of coming back for more. Also for every good idea there are some questionable ones as well which to me come off as like a poor impression of brat

acloudyskye ily

(Below are my first impressions, subject to change)
I was not expecting another so quick after TMBSH, and I think this is on par with that album as well! I think the indie rock transformation acloudskye has been evolving into is finally complete, as shown by many of the guitar-driven + vocal driven tracks on here. This album, for the most part, feels like if you took "Flares" for TMBSH and expanded its sound to a full album. Obviously it's more nuanced than that, ... read more

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm

Yet another 2000s indie rock album that suffers from the "Track 1" curse.

Or is it? First of all 'Like eating glass' is an amazing opener, love the guitars and the hook is super memorable. The rest of the album has some good gems as well, "Positive Tension" , "The Pioneers" being great examples. I was surprised at how varied the instrumentation was, and how tight and snappy many of the drums and guitar were. It reflects the coldness and the angst of the ... read more

Brand New. What. a. band.

I listened to their critically acclaimed and fan favourite a while back, "The Devil and God are Raging inside me" and it has grown on me so much, to the point where I can say it is one of the best albums I have heard. Definitely nails a sweet spot in terms of alternative rock and is all that I could ever want in an emo album. It feels, well, just a lot. In terms of the lyrics and themes, paired with the amazing vocals and instrumentals, make for an extremely ... read more

I'm sorry this is far far aways from perfect and unfortunately as an album I don't think it's one of the best of all time....

Let me say first that I do understand why people LOVE this. The lo-fi production, Phil's lovely singing and just the uniquely soundscape it paints makes it album that is very alluring. It's some parts calm and serene, other parts fuzzy and loud. I really love how raw and stripped back the production is, it gives many tracks on here a deeper ... read more

Emperor X - Western Teleport

Definitely the most interestingly sounding singer-songwriter album I have heard. The lo-fi and folktronica ish production give this album am oddly mellow, warm and sentimental feeling to it. I like the songwriting as well, some funny geeky lines that give the songs some personality. Overall, a quirkly little album that I find quite decent.

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin

"1, 2, 1...BANG"
When I first listened to Race For the Prize, I was stunned. The horns, the vocals and of course the insane drums got me very interested in listening to this fully. Honestly, I was going into this album expecting some light, low energy almost dream-pop esque sound but instead I got that. One thing I will give this album is that it feels wildly experimental: even besides the first track the others tracks sound novel and unique (although not always great).

Not feeling this one sorry...

While I do think that black midi does an amazing job a creating manic songs that are loud and explosive, I think many songs on here suffer from pacing issues. Half of the tracks it feels like the climax has been hit 30 seconds into the song, and the rest of the song just stay at or around that level which makes them feel like a major drag. This isn't an issue if the climaxes are catchy (so songs like "bmbmbm" get a pass) but unfortunately most of ... read more

Has some bangers but honestly I don't feel it's all that consistent especially in the back half. Great production but I find it challenging to fully love the sound like most other people on here, maybe it isn't my cup of tea ig.

Jamie xx - In Waves
68

From the small bits I heard from In Colour, this feels like a step up. Some decent bops on here (especially "Baddy On the Floor", why is that the tittle of the song) but generally most of the tracks just run through. Vocals don't do much though for most of the tracks, it comes off as annoying sometimes and I honestly do think that some tracks would have been better without vocals.

"@rise165 Ok I was too harsh there... I meant to say that the individuals tracks didn't stick out as much for me as compared to the first half so it kinda bleeds together sometimes. The flow and overall sound is still really good don't get me wrong but I personally I do find the back half to meander a little bit too much for my liking so I don't find them as good as the front 6."
