While Ceebo definitely has something to say on blair babies, I unfortunately find the rapping to be incredibly mediocre, its mixing to be very odd, and its overall energy a bit flat. It's a shame - the ideas explored about growing up and living in the UK are interesting at times, but not presented in a compelling enough way for me to want to return.
Absolutely brilliant. svn4vr has such a unique cadence and delivery to his lyrics, blending these super scattered ad-libs with a more indie-folk style—and then his voice is just one of a kind, too. Such a cathartic and comforting listen, I can see myself returning to this.
Just utterly derivative at its core. The AJ Tracey feature absolutely stole the show for me, and Cole carried Bas on the tracks he was on. Nothing really stuck with me, though.
A really stunning folk EP! I had no idea who Loxie was, but she has a beautiful voice, and a very honest style of lyricism. I'm so glad I checked this out, and I'll be keeping an eye on what she gets up to!
So so glad Emily is back, and this song is one of her strongest in recent memory. Really hoping she branches out with production choices, because it really suits her.
Completely unremarkable. By "carving out his own sound" he's just reduced his music to bland and inoffensive neo-soul. I was bored by this album.
No one is making pop music like googly eyes right now. Nobody.
paint me like one of ur fav american girls is easily one of my fave releases of Bethany's. Working with Flume and Tove Lo was the best decision ever, because this trio are lightning in a bottle. Strong lyrics, absolutely gorgeous, earcandy production, and some stunning vocal performances (especially on "E V E R Y W H E R E")... this blew me away. Some of goog's best writing is on here, and it makes me so happy ... read more
Super super strong work from Art School Girlfriend - emotive, textured, and with ASG's soft vocals gliding over the top of these beautiful electronic instrumentals, it's a match made in heaven, really.
Tracks like "The Peaks" or "Hope More, Hopeless" are absolutely stunning in their use of synths, whereas other tracks go for delicacy, and this pays off. Sure, it's not the biggest leap from her last record, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. ... read more
She just refuses to miss. All three singles have made me so excited to hear the whole thing! A gorgeous track that continues to further the world of Ambiguous Desire.
Was not feeling this at all. Harry's vocal performances and lyrics are uninspired, he gets buried in the mix way too often, and it all just passes without me really feeling much. "Apeture" and "Coming Up Roses" are the only songs I'd revisit.
I've never been very into Eurovision at all, but LMNC's approach to everything has reeled me in - and this song is absolutely fantastic. It holds no punches, absolutely doesn't take itself seriously with surreal lyrics and a real sense of imagined narrative you just don't get in a lot of mainstream music these days.
It's a shame this is how good the UK's entry is this year, because I won't be watching the actual show due to the contest's continued ... read more
Completely emblematic of the genre in the worst way possible - this was dull, uninspired, repetitive and unexciting. Nothing was straight-up bad, but apart from "UP", I wouldn't return to any of this. Despite him being the lead credit, Denzel ends up sounding like a side character, and I think it'd have just been better for The Scythe to be the primary artist.
Such a beautiful and serene ambience is created by this record. It sounds just like the cover! Highly recommended, a great chillwave/vaporwave/mallsoft record.
It had some bangers ("Flex Up", "Coffin", "T.D", "Demon Time", "Pardon Me"), but the first half is so clear of the second. I was pretty bored by the midsection (post "Draft Day"), and I know it's a deluxe, but fuck, it didn't need to be this long. There's some cool trap here from Yachty, but nothing lifechanging.
I can't believe I originally gave this a 50. This EP is absolutely gorgeous. Sparse yet dense with feeling, simplistic yet meaningful lyricism, just... wow. I'm so proud of Emma, leaving a label is not an easy task, and she just proved with this EP that she can produce and write completely solo. An amazing project, and amazing proof of how talented she is.
My favourite Emily era, undoubtedly. Her sound was so polished and sounded so goddamn good here - she went 4/4 and these tracks are still easily some of her best. Never forget when these songs were all in my top 5 of my 2020 Spotify Wrapped.
Safe to say, ILYYTW is my favourite EP ever!
Listen in progress - began at 5:02 on 28th February, end TBC. I'll rate the tracks that stand out the most to me.
