Oh Hiroshima - In Silence We Yearn
63

I decided to listen In Silence We Yearn because it's quite famous in the post-rock scene.

You know what, it wasn't exactly wow. Yeah, it's a decent, well-made, high-quality piece of work, but nothing more. Almost nothing is remembered after listening and for the most part the music flies through ears without catching the attention. There are more interesting records in the genre.

FAVORITE: Ellipse, Aria.

Aldebrand the Reverberant - Høuse øf Hørøløgue
54

It was the first dark ambient record that I found listenable!

Really like the concept of the album and the project as a whole. Perhaps it's the story behind this release that makes it feel so special and stand out. Author, don't abandon the idea, it's incredible!

So why such a low rating? Let me explain. It's chaotic and difficult to digest. The interesting thing is that in my mind I understand that the album is incredibly good in its genre, and at the same time, some ... read more

The Delines - Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom
59

A warm, relaxing album.

The instrumentals are not impressive, but do their job well and hit the mark. Yes, it can get a bit dull at times, as the arrangements are pretty monotonous, but overall, it's okay.

The lyrics were strange, not terrible, more like funny. Each song was a simple story, describing specific events. And, Idk, it's cool, but kind of pointless. There are a lot of repetitions of the same boring themes, and I don’t really like it.

Enter Shikari - Lose Your Self
47

Something wrong...

It sounds like a typical acidic, silly alt-pop-rock band, with metal elements. Are there any good moments? Well, maybe. But for the most part, the album comes across as pretentious, perfunctory, and unserious record.

FAVORITE: it's OK, Find Out The Hard Way...

Art School Girlfriend - Soft Landing
52

Chilling, neutral, similar tracks. All the songs are based on the same formula and are extremely predictable. It works well as a background music, but is faint on its own.

FAVORITE: Close To The Clouds.

Minsk - The Crash and the Draw
71

So emotional and intense. I have no idea how the singer can withstand such pressure?

The album feels like you're entering an aggressive environment filled with darkness and rage. I just lost in a wild uninhabitable northern landscape, trying to stay alive. Despite all this, the record also has some beautiful melodic moments. Frankly, I wish the band would use them more often, breaking up the brutal sludge metal riffs, because it's the less heavy moments that make this album feel more ... read more

Lonely The Brave - The Day's War
64

The atmosphere and the lyrics can touch you.

So what's the problem? I don't like the weak dynamics of half the songs, especially the singer's, which makes the album feel weak from a compositional standpoint and very monotonous. There aren't any truly bad tracks, but almost every song plays at the same volume level, and instead of gradually fading in/out it mostly feels like a monolithic wall. Maybe it's not a problem, and just didn't work for me.

Otherwise, ... read more

LANDMVRKS - The Darkest Place I've Ever Been
62

I understand that the singer has an inborn high timbre and it cannot be changed, but nevertheless I don’t like it. The rap parts are extremely abysmal, and some of the attempts to imitate Linkin Park are impossible to take seriously.

But on the other hand, LANMVRKS stands out among hundreds of bands in the scene, which is definitely good. And I like that sometimes they choose bold non-standard decisions here.

FAVORITE: Sulfur, Deep Inferno.

As Seas Exhale - Boreal
52

From the very first track I wanted to give this album a chance, but it never really raised and feels like a compilation of extremely boring ambient sketches. "As Seas Exhale" used to make decent post-rock, so what made him change direction to this? I don't know.

FAVORITE: Woven Glow.

Boundaries - Death Is Little More
84

Hardcore concentrate, minimum filler.

The band isn't afraid to push boundaries, which is why Death Is Little More is so noisy, angry and a little mentally sick. When you listen it for the first time you're simply amazed by the frequent changes in rhythmic patterns and riffs. It's impossible to guess what will happen next and that's really cool. Also, huge respect to the sound engineering, which is simply brilliant here.

Death Is Little More is a top-notch metalcore album ... read more

From Ashes To New - Reflections
37

Ahaha, why am I listening to this? Probably to remind myself of the significant difference between soulless business projects and music.

Again, everything is overcompressed and overproduced to the extreme, perfect for radio (and money). The arrangements are incredibly boring, simply meaningless. The rap parts is, as always, poor and completely out of place, but works perfectly for fans, so From Ashes To New trying to use it again and again and again.

The band has reached another bottom. It ... read more

The Villains - FEAN IS WAR
53

Good lyrics, mid music.

Trying to play on nostalgia for 00s is fine, but technically these guys haven't created anything interesting. If they'd released something like this in 2005 no one would have cared. The fact that the album was promoted thanks to YouTube shorts speaks volumes, because on its own it's nothing special.

FAVORITE: USURPER.

As Everything Unfolds - Did You Ask To Be Set Free?
51

If you see a capslocked tracklist, you know you're looking at a generic modern rock/metal project.

I can't say this album is bad, but it's so dull. The only reasonable use for it is to play it at a high school graduation party. Although you know what, nah, it’s better to turn on something better.

FAVORITE: SETTING SUN, GASOLINE.

As Everything Unfolds - Ultraviolet
57

I've always been bothered when bands change their sound towards the mainstream and this album is no exception.

"As Everything Unfolds" played pleasant fresh post-hardcore with beautiful clean vocals. What made them switch to stylish soulless alt-metal? Idk. On the other hand, we can understand the band: to avoid stagnation they need to move forward. The changes on "Ultraviolet" aren't that radical and can be tolerated (which can't be said about their next ... read more

As Everything Unfolds - Within Each Lies the Other
67

Beautiful clean vocals, so clear and not annoying. But the singer's screams are sometimes inappropriate and sound weak.

In general, the album mostly composed of typical songs for its genre, but among all this you can find personal gems.

FAVORITE: Greyscale, Stranger In The Mirror.

As Everything Unfolds - Closure
64

The progress between this and the previous release is so colosal. Just wow...

The vocalist has improved her vocal abilities. The intrumentals still primitive, like on Collide, but don't raise any questions. And finally, the mixing is much better. Decent, but nothing special. It's a simple and straightforward record in its genre.

FAVORITE: 17:10, Despondency.

As Everything Unfolds - Collide
49

The band here are inexperienced and make music out of some kind of teenage enthusiasm.

The vocals are weak, cause the singer hasn't reached her full potential. The instrumentals are mostly good, but completely unmemorable, like a collection of post-hardcore/metalcore hooks.
And the mixing... it's not ok.

FAVORITE: Bright Lights.

Kauan - Sorni Nai
87

Listening to Sorni Nai evokes a sense of peace. It's as if you've been transported somewhere north, far from civilization, allowing you to forget about the boredom of everyday life.

The instrumental is pretty simple, but it's enough. The old radio interludes hits hard, especially if you speak the language. Clean vocals are unique and aesthetically pleasing, which cannot be said about extreme ones. Maybe it's just not my thing, I don't like it at all. Another negative ... read more

The Ongoing Concept - AGAIN
68

It sounds like Bruno Mars discovered the hardcore scene, ahah.

I can't say I was blown away with the album, but it certainly surprised me. Both the vocals and the instrumentals are a blend of pop-rock/funk/hard rock and hardcore. It's very unusual. It would be cool to see more experiments like this in the modern rock/metal scene.

FAVORITE: Melody Again, Unwanted Again.

Dryjacket - Middle Names EP
64

An atmospheric EP with beautiful cover art. Yeah, that's all. I wasn't hooked by the music, which isn't bad btw.
