MARINA - PRINCESS OF POWER

um. so im doing a little relisten bc it was bad the first time I heard the album, but I think it aged even poorer. There were some good ideas in there, with the video game concept and the retro-pop, but if you're gonna do a concept album, you have to commit to it. EMBODY THE PRINCESS. Cuntissimo did it well, cupid's girl too, but then the others just fell flat. The lyrics are too safe for Marina, when we know what she's capable. Wym we got "I'm too lonely". Where ... read more

An addicting album lowkey. I loved it when it came out, had a full relisten recently and still loved it.

Conceptually, I love the dream sequence. The songs really have the perfect production that showcase it, and their tone matches, going from hazy to frantic between songs. I do wish the cover & title matched this, and I didn't learn it from interviews way back when.

Sonically, this album is just crack. It's super dense and layered, and it flows really well. The guitar parts ... read more

Having to go off of one single and the cover before this album came out was truly scary. Manchild felt so pop-country, I was expecting an entire album of that. I'm really happy with what we did get. She improved upon her vocals and her lyrics. While not as raunchy, there's still some ! moments, which is so perfectly on brand for her now, and they felt in place in the album.

The 70s/disco moments on this album give me life. So many danceable songs that don't compromise on ... read more

This album was infused with summer and sparkle. This is super fun album with varying production on the songs, yet it feels cohesive. The stand-out songs really shine, but there's a lot of filler that I don't want to listen to regularly. Anyways. The deluxe additions were perfect. The slight country twang to the album makes it super interesting, and I love her reaching out of the pop enivronment she's been in. Some vocals were really high and don't really work as well for her ... read more

Taylor Swift - The Life of a Showgirl

Calling it "the life of a showgirl" leads one to expect an album full of theatrical production, large lyrics, and a return to pop glory. UM. we did not get any of that.

First of all, the lyrics are just...bland or aren't fully cohesive to the song. Just saying elizabeth taylor doesn't mean anything. Don't even get me started on Eldest Daughter, Cancelled!, and Actually Romantic. Everyone says "oh its her trying to be cheeky, like shes trying to be cool" OK a ... read more
