For me, it's one of the best albums in the genre. Personally, I think nu metal has never been known for producing "masterpieces" as such, but it has certainly given us some very enjoyable and fun albums, and this is one of them. It's frenetic, it never lets up, and that combination of metal with punk and touches of funk is what makes it one of the most creative albums in the subgenre. This album is a gem. Honestly, I didn't like it the first time I heard it, but it's really grown on me. It's the perfect combination of sentimental hardcore punk and emo, VERY emo, but with those more "metaly" riffs and groove that give it a such a unique sound. Fun album, I don't know, it's not the best I've ever heard, but it's enjoyable. Some tracks are pretty meh, others are quite good and fun. Enjoyable.
Favs: Big Poe, RingRingRing, Sucka Free, DTTG
Worst: Mommanem, Stop Playing With Me
Definitely the album of all time. Personally, I think its main flaw is consistency, as it has some pretty good songs, but they're strangely mixed with some really bad ones; there's no middle ground. Even so, I think it's overhated, it's not the best nu-metal album out there, but it's not terrible either. It's fun, I don't care.
Favs: My Generation, Take a Look Around, Boiler
Worst: like 5 or 6 songs
Overall, it's a very good metalcore album. Converge never disappoints. It's incredible how a band with such a long history remains relevant and maintains an excellent level of quality. Even so, it's not their best work by any means. Many songs feel similar, repeating many motifs and using the same formula in several tracks, but being a short album makes it enjoyable. Finally, I must say that I prefer Jacob's vocals on this album to those on their last two or three releases; ... read more
