My friend passed away recently. The two of us were the biggest fans of Black Dresses that you could imagine, but when it came to the solo works, her favorite was Devi McCallion while I favored Ada Rook, not really seeing what the other saw. Devi always felt 'less' for a lack of a better word. Not as loud, reserved, held back. Perhaps a bizarre opinion, but Shadow Project's material is better in a live setting than a studio album.
Beautiful, noisy, unpredictable, bewildering, one of the most entertaining albums I've ever listened to.
Hard to vibe when there's a racist song on this. It's weird to me that no one ever really revisits these details, whether it be Guns & Roses having a song full of homophobia and racism or Pantera with "You blame oppression and play the role of criminals," it's just bizarre that practically no one ever addresses this stuff.
