The critics all waiting on each other to decide whether this is ass or the second coming of christ
A meditation on everything and nothing, people die and people eat seafood. Sometimes grief doesn’t eventually give way to new understanding and put everything into fine focus, sometimes grief is being inexplicably drawn the life and death of a second cousin you forgot existed. All is permissible and right.
I happened upon this album on music meme page which couldn’t be further away from the place this album has ended up taking in my heart. Each track is almost unanimously sad and ... read more
The debut album from soundcloud rapper-come-indie softie Dominic Fike isn’t anything special or poignant but it is fun.
Anyone looking for nuance and storytelling from Fike are bound to go away disappointed but for those people who enjoy a well put together coming of age banger, they come in droves on What Could Possible Go Wrong.
The best moments here are the tracks that reach unabashedly for the sweet spot between cheesy and sincere. Fully exploiting the centres in my brain that ... read more
This album was so ahead of its time. Coming back to it (as I do most weeks) i'm struck by a new inventive aspect of the albums composition. I hate to play the 'misunderstood intentions' card but this album has not been fully understood. This album can be digested at face value as well as on a deeper level. Tracks like Sweatpants and v.3005 are dopamine rushes initally and then deeper listening eventually and help endlessly with the narrative and through-line that the album holds to. v.3005 has ... read more
I really really don't understand why this album is placed in the position it's placed for music heads. Never have I felt so at odds with public opinion, someone explain to me why this is anything more than average? To me it's overlong mellow background music that I wouldn't notice if it was being played in coffee shop.

WOw this is so damn near perfect, Medhane has a sublime taste for beats, backed by his impressive ability to string depressive one liners into contemplative tracks. This album really pushes the sLUms movement forward, providing further evidence that this experimental vein of rap isn't just one-dimensional sadboi rap. Beats feel nostalgic and alien at the same time often swamped by filters that push it underwater or into otherworldy spaces.
Medhane is all about progression and everything that ... read more
Dejected earl works best. On my bad days I feel this album on my good days I bump this album. Earl is just so quotable, lines from this album will come at me at random moments. There are also moments on this album that really successfully capture the feeling of completely disassociation with the outside world; "Grief" makes me want to get buried in my bed.
the plucked guitar beat really works alongside Travis' typical auto tuned cadences
Probably my most revisited album of the last year. Its one of the few experimental rap albums that truly comforts me; there is genuine beauty here; among the crushing and distorted lyrics from Earl. This album is such a perfect summation of grief being combatted by musicality. There's a reason Earl's voice often struggles to rise above the beats he raps over.
Best Tracks- Azucar, Decmeber 24
The BH boys are depressed, each contributing their own flavour lonely and dejected to the overall broody mood of the album, and it works. Tracks like BOY BYE show the chemistry than the "too many cooks" have without ever "spoiling the broth". Coming from someone who didn't care for Iridescence this is a huge improvement, providing the rocket ride of highs that the saturation trilogy specialised in, whilst also keeping their eyes on bigger issues- there's a compelling ... read more
Would be a 69 if that didn't brand me in a certain light. This album presents new ideas to the electro-swing genre but just 5 years too late, Robots is one of my favourite albums because of its genuinely unique sound but this album falls down due to the lack of chemistry its features bring. OTHER THAN MOONSHINE ,MOONSHINE IS AMAZING
The singles really set me up for a potential masterpiece that could overtake if not be on par with their prior Light Upon the Lake but Forever Turned Around ultimately doesn't delivery much of anything new. This is album is very enjoyable, don't get me wrong, but as a huge fan of Whitney's debut album, its hard to see what Whitney has done in the three years leading up to this album; the band doesn't push their sound further. This however is really a nitpick accentuated by my affinity for the ... read more
Colouring book is joyous and full. Its so great to see that happy rap isn't excluded from the upper echelons of hip-hop.
Best track- Summer Friends
Dave is clearly a talented lyricist and storyteller but this album ultimately fails to be captivating or enjoyable mainly down to its limited choice of instrumentals- Dave really likes his sad pianos.
The best moments in this album are the points where Dave hits his stride in flow and emotional resonance. His voice has the great quality of being able to tug on the heartstrings when he pleads ad petitions, which really helps sell his message. But still this album really fails to grab my ... read more
