Album. Of. The. Fucking. Year.
This was my most highly anticipated record of the year and my god it did not disappoint. The post punk-hyperpop fusions on this album are absolutely insane and innovative and I love them more than words could express. The tragic but also euphoric ending on Duhhhhhhh, the amazingly progressive Geez Louise and absolutely jaw dropping Uncanny long arms with a gorgeous interpolation of Kinko’s field trip 2006 at the end were some serious highlights for me. i feel kinda sorry for him since he had a nice, steady rollout going, only to be completely overshadowed by the release of utopia lmao
Carly delivers some extremely addictive synthpop in her latest album and it's her best work since EMOTION.
Best: Kamikaze, Psychedelic Switch
Worst: Weekend Love
Absolutely gorgeous. I was so worried that it would be a huge let down due to the extremely lengthy rollout and 5 year wait, but man did travis deliver. I must add that, while the single, K-POP hardly adds anything to the album it sounds reasonably better in context. I'm guessing he just picked the most pop/mainstream appealing song as a single to gain wider addention for the record.
Also edit: MY EYES is a top 3 Travis song of all time idc if it’s too early to be saying this shit but it ... read more
Put off on actually listening to this thing for a long long time. Prior to my listen, I’d heard plenty of horrible things about this album and it had me thinking- surely it can’t be THAT BAD. Well, it actually is that bad. Like holy shit it is only slightly less painful than Tom macdonald
Just about everything on this record is complete shit and unlistenable due to the half dead, raspy and moany hooks and equally terrible verses. Extremely basic writing and production that I could ... read more
Writing this short ass review to praise not only the album but how fucking beautiful 2099 is. Good album. Ok that was the review bye
Has a couple rough spots that I’m not too big on but holy shit this slaps. I’ll give it a couple more spins and see if it smooths out a little better. Still super awesome though and I really look forward to future work from the duo.
Edit: 78 > 50
I'm sorry this album just really fails to click with me but fantano was still wrong about it
I used to actually like glaives music, in fact I still enjoy Cypress Grove. Unfortunately I don't have any hope that he will be getting remotely close to the quality of his debut EP ever again.
Edit: 70 > 86
Had no review originally but thought I would come back and update my rating because my admiration of underscores' music is growing heavily. Hyped for her upcoming record
Some great left overs, super fun little ep
Best: NO! NO! NO! ..., HERMANOS
Worst: Tell Me Where To Go
Some seriously sticky hooks and 80s production here, but the execution of some of the ideas is at times a little questionable.
Best: How Do I Make You Love Me?, Gasoline
Worst: I Heard You're Married
Seriously wish it was longer, it had so much potential to be double it's length and just as good if not better.
Edit: Dunno I was probably smoking crack or something when I rated this 85. A lot of this material is way too stretched out and drags on and on rare occasion barely listenable. On the other hand, a fair bit of this stuff is actually spectacular. Like, potentially some of my favourite songs of this year. It's sorta disappointing because there are some super good ideas on this album and it could have been cut down to roughly half the length without all the mid songs and it would be so much ... read more
