I’m definitely lower on this record than other people, as much as a DMX fan I am. It’s got a few great emotional cuts near the back half of the album, but a lot of the production really falls short, complete with several failed attempts at melodic hooks. It just doesn’t necessarily feel like a DMX album, since his sound and style has been changed up a bit here, and not for the better
This album has slowly grown on me over time, and while I’m still a firm believer that this had potential to be Uzi’s best album but didn’t meet the hype or expectations, I find this to be a much better aged album. Especially after the fiasco of EA2, coming back to this album is super refreshing. Uzi is straight rapping his ass off on half of these songs, and these are some of the most layered and interesting beats of his career. If you took out the 5 or so awful songs that are ... read more
I see why everyone was hyping this tape up so much. This is incredible. Amazing tracks from front to back, in what I can describe as a damn near skipless album. The beats are heavenly per usual, and Gunn is on his A game
Potentially my favorite Westside Gunn project. Many people point to albums like Pray For Paris and FLYGOD to be his best works, but for me this is his magnum opus. A staggering number of niche WWE references, a fantastic beat selection, and some very memorable features and bars give us an incredible body of work. Well done, Gunn
It has pretty solid highlights, but ultimately, way too many dull lowlights to even be considered as one of Conways better albums in my opinion. Some of these tracks drag on for way too long with too many interludes, without many different ideas to keep each track interesting and captivating. Conway is still a solid spitter, I was just expecting more from him after a lackluster run from 2023 onward, but I don’t think we got a revival of a project here. It’s good I’d say, but ... read more
While I agree with the common criticism here that the production could’ve been more captivating and interesting, Nas holds his own more than enough to deliver a solid outing with Premier by his side. I just wish we had stronger production by Premier, that would’ve taken this album to another level
I think with the release of this album, we can all agree that trap music has officially fallen off as a whole. 2025 did not give us many good trap albums, with Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Lil Baby, Gunna, Young Thug, and many other established trap artists all shitting the bed with their most recent releases. Despite this, I had some decent expectations with this new 21 album, going off the fact that 21 has been one of the most consistent trap artists out there in recent memory. However, this ... read more
A nice short little EP filled with energy, but only one real standout track in Hittin My Shoulder. There’s not really many top tier Uzi tracks here, but it’s a good little compilation, with the exception of the absolutely horrendous Issa Hit
This is the album where Gunn really became a household name. Strong and bold, Gunn asserts himself as a dominant force in the hip hop game, while bringing his Griselda costars to the spotlight. Overall an amazing project with show stopping production and great energy all around
I was sleeping HEAVY on this album despite it being Gunn’s most well known project. He goes for the throat with his raps on this album, complete with an all star feature list and some of the most luxurious production he’s ever rapped over. Straight up banger
A pretty solid outing from Gunn, but there’s some very noticeable lowlights on this album, especially the 8 minute earrape in the form of Frank Murphy. That song would be a pretty damn good posse cut if it didn’t have a beat that was equivalent to nails on chalkboard or grinding styrofoam together. However, the highs boost this project up, specifically the closing track, which is an absolute banger
2025 might go down for me as the best year for music of this decade. The years almost over and we get randomly hit with another flawless record. Redveil drops his highly anticipated 4th album, and while it had a tough task to somehow be better than the incredible Learn 2 Swim, he managed it. And so, he made his best record to date, and possibly the best jazz hop album of the year. His writing is at his best here, and the beats are all so groovy and unique, with some nice electronic and soul ... read more
Review 1000. Holy shit. Thank you all so much for your support.
During the mid to late 80’s, hip hop culture was making its way through the ears of cities full of listeners, but it wasn’t peaking on the radio or garnering any mainstream attention. That was, until two young emcees, Flava Flav and Chuck D, came together again and created a powerful, controversial, and compelling record. It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back capitalized off of the rise of Public Enemy ... read more
My first Pink Siifu album, and while I love the beginning stretch of the album, I feel like it loses its steam pretty quickly and just doesn’t pick up the pace again. Most of the features bog down Siifu’s energetic performances, and I just feel like Siifu doesn’t fit on the more rage inspired tracks. There’s highlights here for sure, but a lot of lowlights as well
Headache inducing lazy 2020’s trap vol. #824 incoming
For a short mixtape, this is some of the most high quality jazz trap you will find anywhere in the underground hip hop scene. Mavi takes us on a journey through self growth and his eventual rise to stardom, and it’s an inspiring sermon that leaves you hungry for more. Bangers all around as well, and a damn near perfectly concise listen
Good lord… this aged so badly.
I genuinely found this to be a fun and carefree project on my first full listening experience of the project years and years ago, but coming back to it is a whole different experience. The auto crooning is straight up awful to listen to, and Yachty just sounds musically immature all around. Rap just wasn’t really yachtys things, so I’m glad he found his niche in psych rock and alternate music. Because if he had stuck to this sound, my view of ... read more
Out of Yachtys hip hop centric projects, the ones where he was still hungry for fame and attention tend to be his better outings. He holds his own rapping wise on this tape, with solid features and beats to accompany him. His autotuned vocals are pretty hit or miss, but it overall contributes to the simply fun vibe that he’s going for here
The concept is interesting, with Yachty attempting to shout out several upcoming rappers in the Detroit scene. It’s too damn bad that Detroit rap in general to me is very sloppy, inorganic, and mediocre. And Yachty somehow makes it worse by proceeding to be offbeat 99% of the time on some of the shittiest beats recorded on a project in the 2020’s. Its all slop
