This is dancy AND sad. I really like Adore, it was my introduction to The Smashing Pumpkins. It's not too long and over all has a nice vibe to it. Definitely deserves to be in the podium of great Smashing Pumpkins Albums.
I went into this with my own judgement, no review look ups, just a simple wait for it to come out. Was it worth it? Well... It's hard to say. This is a massive improvement over what they were doing previously, and I can respect that they were trying to go for their past sound, but... This isn't the past smashing pumpkins. This is mainstream rock that I've heard time and time again, instrumentals that remind me of other bands. Billy's vocals here are very... Well, aged. He ... read more
Finally after forever I sat down and listened to this, and... Wow. I see why people didn't think so fondly of future material. This is very good, very very good for a lengthy album. This album is so much deeper than what a first listen can achieve.
To truly enjoy this album you need to dig deep and really invest yourself in these songs, it may be ugly, it may be gross, it may be dark, but behind alot of the distress and noise, is beauty. The underlying story this album tells can be taken in so many ways, it's astounding, it's beautiful. I wouldn't say this is my favorite album of all time, but it's certainly up there, it's incredible, and I'm ... read more
I get how people don't like this compared to the previous Smashing Pumpkins albums. I get it, but good lord, I just can't help to let this grow on me. The songs are very overblown in their instrumental, which personally is a good thing at some points, however, it often overlooks the lyrics, and lyrically, this album is quite confusing to follow. The loose concept that hangs on this record is hard to keep track with sometimes, because it doesn't quite follow a good order of stages ... read more
