Kanye West - BULLY

[REVIEW SUBJECT TO CHANGE IF ALBUM GETS UPDATED]
Ye, formerly know as Kanye West, has finally released BULLY since its announcement almost a year and a half ago, and it's honestly not that bad! I was extremely worried up until the very end that the album would be plagued with the AI usage that has been criticised throughout the whole rollout, especially since the physicals that were leaked early seemed to be mostly AI with only a handful of songs having real vocals. Thankfully that has ... read more

slayr - Half Blood (BloodLuxe)
95

These past 2 weeks I have become completely HOOKED on slayr's music, with his sound being such a breath of fresh air for the whole rage scene. BloodLuxe brings 10 additional tracks that is on par and even slightly better than the original tracks from Half Blood, which were already standout. Transitions are still phenomenal as always, and each track has a lot of individuality to them that makes them fun to go back to.

Favourite song: Died But Came Back - Outro to the deluxe, it is so fun ... read more

James Blake - Trying Times
85

I had this album on my radar ever since it was first announced to be releasing, and the singles definitely peaked my curiosity even more. My first officially released project from James Blake that I have listened to, this is definitely one of the best of the year so far. His voice glides on majority of the tracks on this album, sounding heavenly at certain points. Combined with some of the most versatile production choices I have heard from an album this year, it is definitely a must listen ... read more

slayr - Half Blood
85

It has been a LONG time since I last did a proper review on an album, but I decided to have another go at it with this album by slayr. Honestly, this was a really surprising but fresh listen for me, with a lot of production have a blend of different genres that made most tracks stand out from one another. Also the transitions between each song are on point and you should definitely listen to this one front to back as it enhances the album listening experience immensely.

Portishead - Dummy
90

Now that I have reached 100 reviews, I really want to now broaden my taste in music way further then where its at right now, and so what better way then to go to a genre that I never listened to before! Dummy by Portishead was honestly a really intriguing listen to me, with the sounds on this album really being ahead of its time given this is over 30+ years old now. I think Beth Gibbons has quite a beautiful voice that glides through the really sinister production. Each track progresses so well ... read more

Toby Fox - UNDERTALE Soundtrack
100

This review will probably be the most important one to me.

10 years ago on the 15th September 2015, Toby Fox, indie game developer and composer, released Undertale to the public, and with it, came not just the greatest soundtrack of all time, but in my opinion, the greatest piece of music to ever be created. This soundtrack has helped me through the majority of my life, in both good and bad times, and despite me knowing about Undertale for so long, I still always go back to it. It is the ... read more

Travis Scott - Rodeo
85

Rodeo has some of the most quintessential trap and psychedelic songs of the 2010s, which is doubly impressive given that this is Travis' first studio album in his discography. This album Travis' skill as a visionary, creative and director, with a top notch feature list, production that really fills an atmosphere and is not scared to be really out there, and shows him adapting to whatever direction the track goes in and shows him to be extremely versatile.

First time listening to a Death Grips record, and honestly I did not expect it to be THIS experimental despite knowing vaguely beforehand what they were like, but I enjoyed it a lot! Production I can safely say is nothing I have heard before, with every track sounding it was crafted in a completely different universe, and each song is so different yet share such a chaotic and vibrant energy that keeps you engaged with the album, and MC Ride is delivering such enthralling performances that it is ... read more

Trevor Alan Gomes - Deltarune Piano Collections, Vol. 1
80

While I prefer the originally composed tracks, it is nice to have these piano versions of the songs as they are nice way to change up the listening experience if you listened to the Deltarune ost numerous times already. These versions are also very extended from the in-game renditions, so it also makes it quite fresh as well if you were expecting it to be simply a 1-to-1 piano recreation.

Freddie Gibbs & The Alchemist - Alfredo
85

The first instalment of the Alfredo series shows incredible chemistry between Freddie and Al, with Freddie absolutely gliding on such intricate production that you can not find much wrong with it. With just a 35 minute runtime as well, it does not overstay its welcome either and is probably the best album for people to get into either catalogue since this album has produced their most successful songs in their respective discographies.

This is the first album I have listened that is from the Griselda label, and I thought this was super solid! Westside Gunn delivers with good to great performances throughout, with his voice being especially recognisable in an instant and unique from any other rapper, and the feature verses from cemented greats in the modern era really bolster the lyrical prowess of the record. Production is grimy and complex making the sound of the album almost eerie in a few places. Good first impressions.

Tyler, The Creator - Cherry Bomb
60

Honestly, Cherry Bomb is definitely over hated by a lot of people because I actually did enjoy the wild production choices on the album, especially on the first half even if the mixing is definitely not in the best shape it could be. This album was definitely the turning point for Tyler as you get both that but also some surprisingly gorgeous cuts as well that is helped with a quite expansive feature list, though I do think some songs on the second half go on for a bit more then necessary ... read more

Kanye West - BULLY [July Sampler]
20

Not only is this EP even shorter than the last, it is even lazier given that one of the songs is just an ai cover of an actual good song made from a band 50+ years ago. It astonishes me that this is the level of quality Ye feels like is appropriate to serve to his die-hard fanbase who are just begging for at least some genuinely substantial piece of music.

Kanye West - BULLY [June Sampler]
25

While I appreciate the sample-based production on the EP, it really can not save the appalling use of ai that plagues Ye's modern releases, as it could genuinely be pretty good with actual fleshed out, real vocals instead of someone else's, as it dampens the authenticity of the product and shows a lack of passion and hunger to keep on making music.

LUCKI - Watch My Back
75

I have heard many positive things about Lucki's earlier work, and safe to say he did not disappoint! The album is consistent with heavily Cloud Rap based influences that have quite a chill, almost spacey aesthetic. Many tracks do have repetitive refrains, but that is not necessarily a bad thing as it adds to the vibe and sound of the album a lot, and majority of the tracks are quite short as well so they doesn't overstay their welcome. If you are a massive fan of Cloud Rap, you must ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - untitled unmastered.
80

Despite being a collection of throwaway tracks from To Pimp a Butterfly, it still is a great listen with consistent, energised performances from Kendrick who seemed to not skip a beat on so called "side B" songs. Production is also great considering it draws the same jazz inspirations as the album they were unlucky to not get on. It really sends a message knowing that even the tracks Kendrick did not feel could be on his main album can still go against most artists catalogue.

Nettspend - BAD ASS F*CKING KID
20

I listened to this around the same time I did the Ian review, but I didn't get round to doing this review because there honestly was not a lot to really give credit for. It is just your generic rage artist that is not really bringing anything to the table that has not already been done prior by pioneers of the genre. His vocals can be sometimes really poor, and the production makes the tracks blend together and feel uninspired.

Tyler, The Creator - Flower Boy
85

Flower Boy is the first Tyler album where I think the majority of people actually viewed him as a great artist and genius curator. The album has so much warmth which would have been a stark contrast to anything else in his discography at the time. A wide array of melodic performances from both Tyler and the features he assembled really uplift the feeling as well, and with just 46 minutes, you are bound to have an enjoyable listen.

JPEGMAFIA - OFFLINE!
85

These are the tracks not seen on LP! as a single EP,, and so it is not a surprise that it is very good and digestible listen . I see this EP as a gateway for people who may not be convinced to give OFFLINE! a try and want almost a taster of what to expect, which I think it excels at.

JPEGMAFIA - LP!
80

While I feel the offline version is definitely better and is the one I most likely will go to more often considering that was JPEGmafia's original vision, LP! is not to be kept under the radar as the differences in this version can shake up a listening experience if someone is much more accustomed to OFFLINE!. There is songs on here that are not only amazing but also don't appear in the other version, making this album less obsolete despite both versions being on streaming now.
