Angel Olsen - All Mirrors

Have to admit that All Mirrors has grown on me recently. The first half continues to be not only some of Olsen's best material but some of the best of the year. The second half is what has grown on me but it's still somewhat of a mixed bag. As Olsen continues to develop and reinvent herself and her sound, I can't help but wish for a full album of tracks like Chance. It's pure baroque/piano pop goodness that Olsen floats effortlessly over. Vocally her performance is so graceful yet commanding, ... read more

Burna Boy - African Giant

Infectious banger after infectious banger. Can be a bit repetitive at times and could've been cut down a couple of tracks, but it's still unbelievably catchy and the energy is off the charts. Burna Boy has really broke out onto the scene this year in particular and it's easy to see why.

Chelsea Wolfe - Birth of Violence

Disliked this by quite a bit at first, but it's grown on me heavy. One could argue that this is her darkest album yet because of how vulnerable and desolate it is. I also get this feeling of sinful seductiveness sprinkled throughout but especially on tracks like American Darkness and Dirt Universe that add another layer to the somberness of the entire record. Some songs fall a bit flat, but still a great follow up to the near unsurpassable Hiss Spun.

Highlight tracks: The Mother Road, American ... read more

Chelsea Wolfe - Hiss Spun

By far my favorite from Wolfe and her best by a good margin imo. The metal influence is apparent throughout her previous work, but it's satisfying hearing her finally embrace the sound as a whole. Vocally she's at the top of her game and stylistically it's a perfect fit. Equally as mesmerizing as it is menacing, it's one hell of an atmospheric ride.

Highlight tracks are 16 Psyche, The Culling, and Twin Fawn, especially when all 3 straight up unleash. Offering is a standout as well purely ... read more

Chelsea Wolfe - Abyss

Although heavily front-loaded like Pain is Beauty, Abyss however contains some of Chelsea's best work to date. Carrion Flowers, Iron Moon, Dragged Out, and Color of Blood are all absolute masterpieces. The rest however borders on average/slightly above average. Cut out 2 of those tracks and this becomes a really great album.
