i really enjoyed this. sure it sounds amateur but it’s fun and fresh, whimsical and punchy. the raw, emotion-filled vocals form an interesting contrast juxtaposed with digital, videogamey instrumentals. it offers a lot of variety without ever feeling incohesive. this was a wonderfully refreshing listen and i wish it had more recognition
there weren’t any songs i disliked which is impressive for a 15-song album, but nothing really stood out, all the songs sounded alike and generic. i have more respect for an album that takes risks at the cost of some flops.
imo the best songs were writings on the wall, solo and national anthem but not by a huge margin as all the songs were in the range of “pleasant but not memorable”
hit and miss the songs i liked were i hate my job, xavi & iniesta, batshit, and glitch
the first half was rather boring. it does present an array of genres but nothing i’ve never heard before. this situation improves in the second half. we get the robotic bleep bloops of “two maps”, the mysterious gloom of “miles smiles” and lively chanting over squeaky loops in “goldie”. disco-inspired “josephine” blends futuristic elements with a retro flair and “invention” takes us back to medieval times with the harpsichord ... read more
i mean like it was good but it kind of evokes the sentiment of pots and pans clattering
to give you an idea, here are some of my playlists songs from this went into: mysterious cunty songs, microtonal songs for popping pussy, jester music, futuristic, and songs with a faintly medieval vibe
loved the blend of their usual punk/post-punk with black metal into a concoction that’s hopeful and lively and gloomy and gritty and cozy
ok the whole thing is incredible except for the last 2 songs which are basically just inspirational ted talks with music in the background delivered in a manner reminiscent of a youth pastor at summer camp?????
fortunately cool cyberpunk music. unfortunately generic cool cyberpunk music
wow. very rare for me to not get annoyed at an album being an hour long especially considering the songs on here that came before as singles were kind of mid. but the rest of the album really pulled itself up
