every time a song approaches even slightly listenable it decides to make Patrick Stump screech the vocals in a way that the production (which was already struggling) can't handle. Even the songs I remember enjoying as a teen when they first came out sound awful on any headphones that aren't $20 skullcandy earbuds
there’s no “revisiting” and “deconstructing” this or re-contextualizing it as a work of genre bending. To claim they were trying to incorporate hiphop and r&b elements is an insult to those genres. This is straight garbage and genuinely unpleasant to listen to. Lyrics sound like stuff a 16 year old boy would write for his girlfriend of 3 weeks
- have been following her since the initial drop of girlfriend on Spotify, had no idea she was also blowing up on tiktok. Had low expectations going into the singles that followed but was always pleasantly surprised. This isn’t perfect, the rush to put out an album to ride on the wave of online attention is understandable but can definitely be felt with some of these songs. Still so much fun, really don’t think she has missed yet :)
Chappell Roan seems to be plagued by writing with online talking points in mind and it bleeds to most of these songs. Which would be more forgivable if she were any younger than 25
