Super well produced but ultimately a little boring for my taste? Very few songs on here I'll be coming back to :(
As with any compilation like this, there are some amazing highlights, a bunch of "whatever's", and a few disappointing tracks. As a huge Nick Drake fan, this was a pretty solid listen overall, but I don't see myself relistening to the whole thing ever again. I'm also devastated we never got a black metal cover of Things Behind the Sun...
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Let's Eat Grandma's version of From the Morning is honestly one of the better covers I've heard in recent memory. Absolutely ... read more
Such a good rock record! Also one of the best, most versatile new vocalists on the block
Wand has been one of the most under appreciated rock bands out there for years now and I’m of the opinion that Cory hasn’t missed yet - and this continues the streak! Also, the riff on Housefly is a 10
King Gizzard is far and away the most exciting and adventurous band out there today - everything they touch, even if it's not your cup of tea, is at least ambitious and interesting. Here, on PDA (not writing the whole title out are you kidding me), they somehow go even further out and craft one of the best metal albums of the past 5 years.
SOME NOTES:
- This is the biggest display of the band's talents since Polygondwanaland. I honestly don't think I could count the number of tempo, time ... read more
So unbelievably disconnected from this one... Undergrowth and The Blades are sick though
5 years after Dirty Computer, arguably one of the best genre fusions of the past decade, Monae follows this up with barely 30 minutes of eeehhhghhhh????
shawtty got me like AUDI MEA VERBA/OH IGNIS DRACONIS/EX CINERIBUS ORIOR/ALTIUS ATQUE ALTIUS/ALIS PATENTIBUS/LUMINE MICANTE/DRACO HIC APPARERE DEBET/IN LOCO SUBTER
I just want old rhaspy Leonard to whisper “you’re a good boy” into my ear
Absolutely love Half Moon Run (as pretty much all Montrealers do), but this is the first time I've been kinda bored by one of their albums. The performances are incredible as usual, but the songwriting is pretty tedious and a lot of the fun risks they took on their last album are nowhere to be found. It's a fun folk rock album, but not much more unfortunately.
My mom screamed "OH YEAH" when I put the record on. There are three masterpiece songs on here but the rest is somewhat forgettable. I wish to reincarnate into a 3-way harmony though....
Look, this album is super cute and bizarre and clever and really unlike anything else coming out today. Check out that Sparks documentary if you haven't already, it's wonderful.
