Cordae - The Crossroads

Score: 7.7/10 (STRONG 7)

Cordae’s biggest problem in the past was that his rapping, production, and everything overall was just bland.
I can say for the most part, this was not the case here as I was entertained througout.
Everything seems more purposeful here. Not trying to create a huge concept with each song but keeping it simple.
Shai Afeni might be his best song ever. The soul production is beautiful and the bars about his newborn son are thoughful and hopeful.

Score: 8.0/10 (LIGHT 8)

Rating deluxe tracks only.
5 great tracks to continue the energy of the original album.
Pretty rare to have every feature do their thing, Denzel brought the best out of them.
When I go back and play through the album, none of these would be skips.
Tracks that hit, tracks that slide, really nothing to complain about.

Score: 5.8/10 (STRONG 5)

This thing was a slog, just finished listening and I can’t remember how most tracks actually sound.
The first Sli’merre tape wasn’t perfect but at least that had features to break up the monotony.
Pi’erre’s sound has just gotten stale and predictable. The transitions are just alright.
I would say the only reason the score isn’t lower is that most of the songs were just meh, nothing offensively bad except Splash.
I just think Nudy ... read more

Slimesito - Rich Slime

Score: 6.7/10 (STRONG 6)

Slimesito’s delivery is subdued and cold-blooded, which works well with the production but also sometimes sounds disengaged.
Most of the instrumentals sound like they should be played on Halloween night, with dark atmospheres, chilling synths, and rattling bass.
There’s some sample-based drill mixed in too, which is decent.
Some tracks just don’t really go anywhere. Once you’ve heard the first 30 seconds, you’ve heard it all.

Westside Gunn - Still Praying [w/o DJ Drama]

Score: 7.0/10 (LIGHT 7)

This is the version without DJ Drama, and it’s much more relaxing.
These beats are pretty standard for a Westside Gunn project, but have that nice dusty, classic feel to them.
As someone who enjoys Gunn’s delivery, I think he sounds great over these beats.
The features did great too, especially Conway, Benny, and Rome Streetz.
Score would be higher if it didn’t take such a long time to get going, kinda plodded around at the start.
Just a good, ... read more
