There will never be another Pj Harvey. This album sweeps between stripped down, earthly, heart-tugging songs that represent the sea breeze of Dorset to songs that evolve with their chugging guitars and soulful eclipses illuminating like the city lights of NYC. Vocally she is stellar on this record and the hard work payed off massively. The riffs and hooks are transcendent and do bring me to “a different land.” She is utterly vulnerable and lyrically encapsulates her growth up until ... read more
Lana does it again! This is her 2nd album this year and it was a surprisingly good listen. While yes there are a few vocal and instrumental errors dotted around the album…or lyrics becoming a bit derivative, it still is captivating and lonesome. The opener “Text Book” was originally not my favourite when I first listened although now I believe its a fitting start for the albums roll out. “Blue Banisters” also seemed too minimal for the title track but it’s ... read more
“Jubilee” by Japanese Breakfast is definitely my favourite albums of 2021. This album is cohesive within it’s indie rock/pop style and brings in elements of jazzy saxophone solos and horn arrangements that compliment the sonic textures. Songs like “Paprika” and “Be Sweet” open up the album amazing with their catchy yet captivating lyrics and polarising instrumentation. Then “Kokomo, IN” has a slower and more melodramatic structure with ... read more
This is such a cool soundtrack that uses both the aesthetics of Medúlla and Volta which easily makes it one of her most inaccessible and beautiful works to date
this album is just bone-chillingly good, from the atmospheric title track to the blood curdling for her… this might be fiona’s best work. the drum rhythms are awkward and feel off beat but it’s just so cool how she can make such great ballads and inspiring chants with these. i love love loveee how raspy she gets on the record and her vocal performances overall show off so much emotion. every song has a unique rhythm and sound yet they are still cohesive. from her sense of ... read more
ok this re-recording of fearless made me love fearless even more :)) i haven’t listened to this album in a while but the memories?!?? all the songs sound so similar to the original and the quality is much better than the 2008 recordings of the album…and the b sides are great too!! so happy for taylor!
Volta has slowly become one of my favourite Björk albums. While I never understood the slander I did feel a bit disconnected from the album. When I listened to DR9 it had elements of both Medulla and Volta in it such as the horns and vocal layerings which allowed me to adapt to the sound. I love how vibrant and abrasive this album comes of is. It has this flare of joy and hostility. From the squelching noise of feet stomping at the beginning to the chilling and sparse harpsichord towards ... read more
ok this song has many aspects i love…but there are some that just don’t click with me. i like the minimalist instrumentation at the start and her voice is enhanced by that, but i feel that it takes a while for the song to progress. the chorus EVENTUALLY comes (i don’t rlly like the transition) and i love the references to primal scream….also PHOEBE BRIDGERS!!😩 overall i think the song is a bit overrated cuz she could have bulked it out with maybe a second chorus or ... read more
I surprisingly liked Chromatica as it truly brings back the essence of the old Gaga and the production by BloodPop on this album is punchy and crisp. The only downfall on this record is the songwriting.
God this album is good. From front to back, the sound is expensive and lush and lyrically is one of Lana’s most intriguing. She nails the albums concept of love drought, California dreams and smoke.
Favourites include: Norman fucking Rockwell, Venice Bitch, Fuck it I love you, Doin’ time, Happiness is a butterfly, Love song and Cinnamon Girl
“Chemtrails Over The Country Club” is one of Lana’s more stripped back bodies of work. It opens with one of her most vocally magnificent and heart wrenching songs “White Dress.” The somber and lush title track and “Wild At Heart” being some of my favourites, she lives up to her expectations. I love how many melodic and just beautiful songs are on this album (e.g. “Breaking Up Slowly” and “Not All Who Wander Are Lost.”) I ... read more
“Lust For Life” overall was an enjoyable listen excluding the pointless A$AP Rocky features and generic trap beats. The record is also 72 mins long but it doesn’t drone on.
I have to say “Nightclubbing” is not my favourite out of her trilogy as I sometimes feel underwhelmed. All though it has classics such as “Pull Up to the Bumper” and “Nightclubbing” some tracks like “I’ve Done It Again” come off as tired.
BEST TRACKS: Feel Up, Nightclubbing, Walking In The Rain, Demolition Man
WORST TRACKS: none
Honestly Friday truly is a classic within itself but this remix is everything....and the music vid is dope as hell.
“Living My Life” is truly one of my favourites by the one and only Miss Grace Jones. With it’s reggae and R&B feel, it becomes a timeless work of art and definitely one of the most iconic covers. Every single track is a joy to listen to thanks to production by Chris Blackwell and Alex Sadkin.
Mrs. Peaches....This is surprisingly GOOD?!?? I honestly love her voice. Shes really multi-talented giving us these vocals and bars on Burnin’ and Itchin’
“Vulnicura” is one of my favourite releases from Björk this decade. Lyrically and vocally, it shines a new light on the beloved Icelandic singer. It emotionally is very dark and moody after her break up with ex-partner Matthew Barney. Its compelling to the listener with many unusual electronic beats, beautifully arranged strings and glitchy synths. The vocals on this album are also truly atmospherical. It’s co-produced by Arca and is quite a lengthy record running in at ... read more
“Positions” is Ariana Grande’s 5th studio album. I’m not going to go into too much detail on this album as in my opinion it’s not her best release. While on this album she expresses her sexuality and is a lot more vulnerable, the huge let down for me is the dated trap beats and the boring string arrangements. It seems to me the album was made so the songs could trend which isn’t a bad thing but it’s unfortunately quite noticeable. “Shut Up” ... read more
