middle school brooding

an accurate recreation of my ipod from middle school with accompanying personal narratives. emo, scene, post-hardcore, metalcore, pop punk, and similar genres mostly from 2006-2012.

AFI - Decemberunderground
prelude 12/21 used to be the first song on my ipod so it would automatically play as my alarm clock sound when i was like 9 and it was kinda creepy to hear that early in the morning. i liked miss murder from guitar hero as well as prelude 12/21, kill caustic, summer shudder and love like winter.
Alesana - The Emptiness

alesana will always be one of my favorite emo bands, i found them through apology & seduction. this album goes immensely hard and is the perfect campy scene kid record. like... it's a post-hardcore rock opera retelling of an edgar allen poe poem???? hello>????? thats awesome. for some reason as a kid i was obsessed with a lunatic's lament but the murderer is probably my favorite on this. also for some reason when i downloaded it from limewire i didn't have to be scared by an owl so the first time i heard it was after i convinced my friend to convince her mom to get fuse TV so we could watch their live performance. also i saw the 10 year anniversary tour and it was legitimately one of my favorite concerts ive been to.
Alesana - Where Myth Fades to Legend
70
my least favorite alesana album (of the ones i like lol) but still very solid imo. seduction MV is fun and i watch it occasionally.
Alesana - On Frail Wings of Vanity and Wax

another alesana slay. as a greek mythology kid i was certified OBSESSED!!!!! i once tried to record a cover of the third temptation of paris when i was home alone and got humbled quickly and deleted it. i also made a binder cover of word art from tilting the hourglass one time of the lyrics "My iron eyes tell the tale / Heroes always pay in their blood! / I can be only this! / I see the fear growing in there!" it was in cursive so i dont think anyone could actually read it thank god i would've been recommended for counseling probably
Alesana - Try This With Your Eyes Closed

i discovered this after i had already heard more polished alesana tracks but red and dying evening from this EP specifically still rips. i always liked it because it made me feel super hardcore as a 10 yr old.
Alexisonfire - Old Crows / Young Cardinals
i never got super into alexisonfire but the songs i did know from them were solid. one time this douche ass kid i had a crush on in 5th grade discovered how to download songs from limewire which i already knew how to do but i had a crush on him so i paid him $35 american dollars in the year 2009 to make me a mix CD of songs from bands i gave him a list of. my goal of this was to impress him with my cool music taste but he made absolutely no comment on my music taste and just picked the most popular songs by the artists which i had anyway. anyway old crows was one of those songs i think.
Alexisonfire - Crisis

boiled frogs goes hard. that was my fave from this album.
Alexisonfire - Watch Out!

accidents and side walks where she walks *thumbs up emoji* i dont have much else to say about alexisonfire they're pretty cool but not much personal connection to them
Alexisonfire - Alexisonfire

.44 caliber love letter omg that song just wowed me (and i always thought the cover of this album was pretty... cool)
Alexisonfire & Moneen - The Switcheroo Series: Alexisonfire vs. Moneen
i think this is how i found moneen and i love when bands trade songs i think thats so cool. canadian W
Asking Alexandria - Reckless & Relentless

oh how i loved danny worsnop when i was 13 years old... i thought this album was like, so badass... metalcore rock & roll for real!! i saw them at warped tour and saw like 3 adult womens boobies there. favorites on this album included dear insanity, to the stage, and morte et dabo but this was one of the first albums i would consistently listen to front to back.
Asking Alexandria - Stand Up and Scream
40
i first found asking alexandria from their music video for hey there mister brooks since it featured shawn milke of alesana and i was such a big alesana head. i fell in love with asking alexandria especially when i discovered they were british. honestly this album doesn't hold up super well but the techno parts add interest to the pretty lame guitar. not the american average and i was once possibly maybe perhaps a cowboy king were my faves (besides mr brooks)
Blood On The Dance Floor - Evolution
uh. uhh. i can explain. i was 12 and stupid!!!! i think the only one from this album that really stuck with me was revenge porn. which was a really prevalent pop culture topic at the time, especially in the emo/scene world. anyone remember isanyoneup? wild west internet era
Blood On The Dance Floor - Epic
i have unfortunately seen them live at warped tour. unfortunately i also liked their music quite a bit, especially sexting and scream for my ice cream. my internet access really shouldve been monitored.
Blood On The Dance Floor - It's Hard to be a Diamond in a Rhinestone World
oh no this was definitely my favorite BOTDF selection... S my D, ima monster, blood on the dance floor... :| evil music
BOYS LIKE GIRLS - Boys Like Girls
70
this was one of the first forays into pop punk for me and i think this album is really fun still. easy to listen and vibe to and takes me back :-)
Bring Me The Horizon - There Is a Hell Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven Let's Keep It a Secret.

my sister had the earlier BMTH albums on our itunes so i knew of them from there but this one is the first and only BMTH record that really clicked for me. i would listen to it while walking my dog and fantasize elaborate scenarios where i would use my karate skills to beat ass to alligator blood or fuck. when my dog got put down many years later when i was an adult, i listened to this album on repeat all day so it has a really special place in my heart. RIP sam <3

when i first heard this i was like omg... this is the most badass scary music ever... i also was afraid of listening to it because the album cover scared me so much NOT because it was organs but because i thought she was holding a bunch of bloody penises. i had never seen a penis.
Bring Me The Horizon - Count Your Blessings
remember when they sounded like this???
brokeNCYDE - I'm Not a Fan, But the Kids Like It!

for whatever fucking reason i absolutely loved brokencyde as a 13 year old (which i guess makes sense because i cannot imagine anyone past the age of? 16? enjoying brokencyde as genuinely as i did). i thought it was so fucking badass and awesome and played it super loud in my skullcandy headphones on the way to washington DC with my class. highlights for 13 yr old me included: booty call, skeet skeet, 40 oz, sex toys and schitzo. highlights for adult me include nothing.
brokeNCYDE - BC13

my sister had schitzo on our itunes which is how i became aware of brokencyde in the first place. i think it was ACTUALLY the first song with screaming i liked as a wee 8 yr old (along with alex english by dance gavin dance, an infinitely better song). crazy first intro to scene/emo music i guess. thanks brokencyde.
Cute Is What We Aim For - The Same Old Blood Rush With a New Touch
like hornier boys like girls. i graduated to cute is what we aim for from boys like girls in high school.
From First to Last - Heroine

i became obsessed with this album when i was in like 7th or 8th grade because i loved skrillex & emo music and found out that this was skrillex before he was skrillex so. easy sell. my favorites when i was a kid were: mothersound, ...and we all have a hell, shame shame, and waltz moore. honestly i still revisit this album occasionally because it's emo royalty to me, even if i don't think it's technically the most impressive.
