I actually disagree that these remixes were good. Even though the trilogy may have been a little overproduced, this EP actually has some pretty bad sounding mixes. Specifically, on the first two songs, the drums are really loud for no reason. And instead of keeping it simple, now there are parts made louder or weirdly reverbed (?), making it a really overbearing wall of sound which IMO doesn't benefit the two Dos songs. It's just weird to do this especially to songs that are already ... read more
"I'm choosing my words carefully
Don't want there to be any misunderstandings
But I stand by the things I said
There will be no retraction"
The words were not in fact chosen carefully and there is no misunderstanding, I couldn't even understand to begin with.
I find the monopoly part pretty funny but this is quite a weird song and I don't know if I'm supposed to take it seriously.
I hate to give a somewhat low score on this knowing it already is going to receive quite a bit of dislike given the absence of Issac Slade who was important to the Fray's sound. i will also give a disclaimer that I don't know the band well outside of some of their big hits.
I'm glad "The Fray Is Back" but sadly I do find this EP quite uninspired. Issac Slade is sorely missed. They do try to include a piano line on some of the songs, though these are not as good as the ... read more
I started listening to Snow Patrol earlier this year. To be honest, I was kind of worried when Gary announced a new album along with Jonny Quinn and Paul Wilson leaving. I think I was further worried when they revealed the producer, with Frasier T. Smith replacing Jacknife Lee. Admittedly, I haven't listened to any album other than Eyes Open in full, but from the songs I heard, I got the feeling that Snow Patrol was a band that had stagnated over time, and I thought the change in personnel ... read more
This is like, everything I wanted from them. I was already a pretty big fan of their sound since discovering them last month and just hearing and seeing them build upon it on this album is just beautiful. An excellent album from Hello Mary.
Hell yeah, it's Nada Surf, and the band returns with a great album. They have always mostly stuck to power pop, and for good reason; it's what they're best at. There are some songs that might be a bit simpler or perhaps sonically unsatisfying but for me personally I just thought it helped the band show their range from simpler songs like Losing/Intel and Dreams, to the more melancholic ballads like New Propeller and Floater, or something more less traditional like on The One You ... read more
This song is a banger, which makes it suck all the more that the main art piece of this era is ai generated.
Overall I thought this was solid. We Are Machines is a solid opener, but then the next few tracks kinda passed me by even though they weren't all that bad. However, from Siren onwards, they start mixing it up a little, with longer riffs, longer solos, more interesting fills. Overall I feel like this album gives the vibe of a new band who haven't quite found their footing yet. There's a lot of decent ideas here; I'd like to see if they manage to build upon this in their ... read more
I like Husker Du though only have heard a few songs, saw this pop up in my reccs so why not give it a try.
Eight Miles High: The production is a quite abrasive, I don't see why I would listen to this when I could just pick a nicer sounding song to listen to.
Masochism World (Live): same thing here. again, i don't know the original song, but this is not a good sounding recording of it.
Makes No Sense At All & Love Is All Around: these are more what I'd expect from Husker ... read more
On this record, Amadou Ousmane Ali showcases his voice with his molo for 40 minutes, which I do find has a unique and enjoyable sound. His playing/singing is a fairly compelling listen. However I have to admit that around halfway through either track I did start losing interest. I didn't get bored out of my wits, but I just found the sound of the recording (such as the rough sound of the strings of the molo) just started getting a little grating and I was hoping for something more than ... read more
Two Tuareg brothers come together to create a nice, chill, folky acoustic album. Very beautiful, honestly surprised I enjoyed it that much.
This 5/10 rating comes at a huge caveat, that piano improv isn't exactly a genre I'm into. It just didn't make me feel much, not even as background music. There's also some experimentation with the piano sound in some of the tracks so it's not just one piano sound, but I wouldn't say it's enough to satisfy my ears. Still an interesting record from Masami Tomihisa with its moments, and it isn't a bad album in any way. I am likely to revisit this in the ... read more
"The idea is simple...we send a Tascam 4-track cassette recorder to an artist, they record two songs to tape, then mail the recorder to the next artist to do the same. "
Joyce Manor contributes two lo-fi demos that are as expected, short and sweet. The closest songs they have to the songs here are from Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired, due to sharing the lo-fi sound. NBTSA would be later recorded for the studio album 40. Oz to Fresno.
Luckily, this wasn't a complete disaster as the worst pre-release singles were relegated as bonus tracks.
If you don't enjoy this type of pop rock OneRepublic makes this album doesn't really have much to offer, because it's really just brand of super-produced pop rock. For me, there were moments where I thought that the production/performance was weak, but not so much to the point where I started disliking or getting bored. I assume Brent Kutzle (their bassist/cellist) ... read more
I'm kinda going back and forth with this one. With the rhythm section leaving they really do sound different. This song's ideas are fun but I'm not too sure I would enjoy this song if it wasn't a Snow Patrol song.
This is an alright song. It's definitely pretty poppy and borders on generic and boring.
