A majority of this album's problems would be solved if the artists would sing normally. I actually like quite a lot of the instrumentals here, it's quintessential bedroom pop stuff. HOWEVER, they insist on either singing in a really exaggerated tone and stretching the lines weird, or putting horrible vocal effects on that make the song damn near unlistenable. This happens A LOT. Also, I understand this album is for a very niche audience, but they don't even attempt to make it ... read more
This definitely feels like a progression for O-Rod, while still being a well she's drawn from before. She's insecure about all the other girls that the guy she's with has dated, and it's driving her insane. And no matter how much he may say he's over them, SHE isn't. While this has been a feature of Olivia's music going back to jealousyx2 on Sour, I think what's different here is that the guy doesn't seem to be the problem. Like Taylor Swift on ... read more
Listening to this album, I can see why Garth was the biggest country star in the world for a time. He's a good singer, he's got good writers, there are some fantastic hooks on here. However, from the first song, this album shows its age. I'm all for being a rebel against the system, but if your examples are Christopher Columbus and John Wayne... yikes. My biggest issue is just how male centered this album is. It's so ridiculously for the dudes, on In Lonesome Dove, the wife ... read more
Yeah, if Rush isn't in your goat conversasions, you MAY BE straight up smoking crack. I think Tom Sawyer is a bit overplayed, and Vital Signs doesn't do much for me, but the rest of this track list is truly mind blowing shit. The level of musicality desplayed on YYZ and The Camera Eye is astounding. I NEED Red Barchetta to soundtrack a movie scene, where the characters fix up an old beater car, drive it around, and outrun the cops. Limelight is such a sweet and understandable ... read more
Mad underrated, especially for the g-funk production. I realize that may have been a bit dated for the time, this post dates Regulate by a year, but that sound will always be so timeless to me, it's so good. Adina is a solid singer, and even if she's not doing anything crazy by today's standards, I think this level of unabashed female sexuality was unique compared to her peers, at the very least on the iconic single Freak Like Me. Highly recommend, it's an extemely west ... read more
